Previous Work Experience: Talan Home Builders, LLCEagle Wisconsin US Dates:06/1992-06/2008 Hours per week:50-60
Position: Owner / General ContractorIn June of 1992 I started a four year apprenticeship through the Carpenters Union of the Milwaukee District Council. Since then I have worked the majority of time as a journeyman carpenter. I have worked union and non-union jobs, as well as residential and commercial. I worked for a number of carpenter contractors until 1992 when I formed my own company. As Talan Home Builders, LLC I took on mostly remodeling projects in the beginning, such as home additions, basement build-outs (complete rec rooms) and door and window replacements. In 1994 the emphasis was new home construction. We built spec homes in Waukesha, Jefferson, Washington and Ozaukee Counties. We sold most of our spec homes “in houseâ€. Utilizing various sales and marketing techniques as well as trade shows, we started building contract homes, which was our ultimate goal. I personally did all of the finish carpentry on many of the “early homes†until it got too busy, at which time I had to sub contract that portion of the work as well as all the other trades. In 2005 the housing market started to decline and remodeling once again became the focus. We now included garages, decks, dormers and kitchen & bath remodels. In 2008 as the market declined even further, we found fierce competition for the few jobs available and I was forced to close my business. In June of 2008 I took a job with Stanisch Finish Carpentry, LLC as a finish carpenter. The type of work the company does is high end finish carpentry for Kingsway, Westridge, Horwath and Zach Builders. As a small business owner I assumed all of the roles that a typical small business will have. I designed and built model homes, assembled a very reliable team of sub-contractors, carried out sales and marketing plans and expedited the project management for all of my jobs. I haveexpert use of most carpentry hand and power tools as well as wood shop machinery. I am knowledgeable in all aspects of carpentry, I pay great attention to detail, take pride in my workmanship and am able to solve problems on my own and make things work. My diverse background in the building industry gives me the ability to address numerous “carpenter related issuesâ€. As a General Contractor I have carried out projects from conception to completion and have many years of actual field experience. I am well qualified and confident working in almost any construction environment.
