BEW seeks Engineers to expand our capabilities in the performance of solar site design, planning, engineering review, technology review and production estimates for utilities, banks and developers of large scale solar energy projects. The ideal candidate should be an experienced energy engineer, utility consultant, or advanced degree engineer wanting to apply his or her engineering skills to a rapidly growing renewable technology consulting company. Candidate will have responsibility for PV engineering deliverables. Will have technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing and executing assignments. Will have business responsibility for providing project deliverables on time and on budget with high quality. Will also be responsible for multiple client interactions, including scoping, status reporting, and discussion and review of project deliverables. Specifically, candidates need to have an understanding and working experience with solar systems and/or components. The list may include but is not limited to: photovoltaic modules, racking or tracking systems, inverters, balance-of-system (AC and DC), transformers, switchgear, revenue metering, and data acquisition systems (SCADA). Typical duties may include PV system design; design review; site assessment; System energy modeling energy estimates; technology evaluation and risk assessment; EPC evaluation, selection, and monitoring; detailed system and component modeling; technical report writing; utility interconnection and transmission evaluation; site inspections; contract review of EPC, O&M, and performance guarantee; operations and maintenance review; financial modeling and review; regulatory compliance; construction monitoring; equipment commissioning and testing and travel to client and remote sites. Daily work will require interfacing with senior management, clients and product manufacturers on significant matters, often requiring the coordination of activity across the company. The successful candidate will participate in the development of other technical contributors by mentoring junior staff members and provide training, review, feedback and guidance. Senior Engineers will also lead project teams to complete work for clients and provide technical leadership to other engineers. Successful candidates will develop, present and publish work internally and externally as appropriate.
Job Requirements : Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering from an accredited university and 7+ years experience in the planning, design and/or operations of photovoltaic systems or advanced degree and 5+ years experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) in California, or ability to obtain same.
Must be comfortable with the technical aspects of the job as well as business and client interactions.
Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations and emails. Project management skills are preferred.
Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment as well as work on self-directed independent projects. Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Must be able to carry 40 pounds of equipment for short durations.
Must be able to climb a ladder onto a rooftop to inspect a solar installation.
Must have a current US drivers license.
Must be able to obtain a valid passport and visas for travel to Europe and Canada.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
