Advanced Energy is a global leader in innovative power and control technologies for high-growth, thin-film manufacturing and solar power generation. Specifically, AE targets semiconductors, solar cells, flat panel displays, data storage products, architectural glass, solar grid-tie inverters and other advanced applications. We have an immediate opening for a Field Applications Engineer (FAE), Solar Inverters.



In this position, you will be responsible for providing customers, the sales account team, the corporate product-marketing team, and the engineering team with technical support necessary to communicate solutions and properly apply and operate AE Inverter products. The position is an integral part of AE's efforts to secure and defend customer design wins and carries a large pre-sales component as part of the Account Management Team. It is also responsible for providing technical expertise and direction specific to Inverter applications in which AE's customers operate. Technical support is typically offered through the entire product life cycle (i.e.: starting at the discovery or pre-sales specification stages of the sales cycle, through the post sale cycle supporting field and customer technical issues). The FAE will have extensive and constant engagement with customers and is responsible for increasing the number and depth of AE relationships with customers, and for gathering, understanding, and reporting intelligence from the field concerning industry, customer and competitive trends and developments.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Generate new business (Design Wins): Work with key customer contacts and AE account managers/directors, product managers and engineers to identify and understand new opportunities, and successfully promote, apply, operate, release and support AE products for such opportunities in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives.

· Work with customers on PV System Array architecture solutions during design phase (Daily, numerous solutions and customer interactions per day)

o Deliver full schematics and PV array components optimization when combined with AE inverter/accessory products

· Analyze and modify customer line diagrams for full PV site (value-add suggestions for customers)

o Lead technical engagement with customers providing product expertise, applications solutions and industry expertise that differentiates AE

· Work with field sales team, product marketing, development engineering and other AE resources

· Work directly with customers, orchestrated by field sales and product teams · Emphasis on sales cycle contribution to enable AE to win new projects

· Leverage various software packages/tools (e.g., online configuration tool) · Assess BoS equipment such as transformers, switch gear etc

· Define integration of IDS connectivity solution with sales/customers · Team with product marketing for new features, configurations, modifications that arise while optimizing customer applications

· Observe opportunities for AE advantage, or competitive needs and connect with product marketing for resolution.



2. Defend current business: Work with key customer contacts and AE account managers/directors, product managers, engineers, customer support staff and quality staff to proactively support AE's existing business (design wins) in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives.



3. Build critical relationships: Demonstrate constant focus on and investment in building strong relationships with key contacts within customer accounts, with key influencers such as industry and regulatory experts and with AE colleagues, that are based upon mutual trust and a respect for the mutual value that is produced; always strive to build and defend a productive and rewarding team-environment.



4. Liaise technically: Based upon day-to-day engagement with AE's customers, products and applications, act as proactive technical liaison among customers and other AE personnel as required in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives and mission statement.



5. Gather information: Gather, understand, synthesize and communicate internally to appropriate personnel information relative to customer, industry, application and competitor trends, developments, product positioning and roadmaps which has potentially substantive value to AE's ability reach our corporate objectives.



6. Provide training and trouble-shooting: Provide technical product and application training to customers and AE colleagues as needed to demonstrate/promote/optimize the use of AE products and to evaluate customer needs. As required, provide troubleshooting services in order to understand, address and communicate product related issues.



SKILLS: Position requires strength in the following skill sets:

· Technical and non-technical verbal and written communication skills

· Technical knowledge/trouble-shooting

· Relationship and team-building

· Use of laboratory diagnostic equipment

· Use of power equipment

· Metrology and test equipment commercial practices (e.g.-specifications, Non-Disclosure Agreements, IP-protection, business ethics, compliance rules, site safety certifications as required etc.)



EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

· 2 years in related engineering field

· 2 years in the Solar Industry (Solar Inverter Operation and Installation or Power Utilities)

· Working knowledge of Solar Industry

· Knowledge of National Electric codes and standards

· Computer driven diagnostic equipment, Visual Basic for test simulation; Microsoft Excel creating macros for qualification criteria

Desirable:

· Specific knowledge of, and experience with key customers, their equipment and applications.

· Knowledge of requirements for AC Interconnection to Grid

· Professional Engineering Certification

· Experience with the installation of various types of equipment required for Solar Panel Installation and Operation i.e.: transformers and switch gear

· Product trouble-shooting to board level

· Experience with industry
