Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist

Job Description: Independently performs complex professional engineering assignments in a
global business unit design office or field requiring the application of
specialized and/or advanced engineering principles at the conceptual
level. May direct personnel on special studies or special segments of a
client project. May participate in the formulation and development of
advanced engineering concepts associated with proposal development
design or construction. Recognized within Bechtel for professional
competence and potential as an outstanding specialist.


The Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist will work on the Mechancial
Chiefs staff with a team of other Specialists who report to the Manager
of Rotating Equipment and Engineering Analysis. A goal of this team is
to prevent rotating equipment failures and thereby improve project
schedule performance.

The Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist will work with multiple power and
other GBU projects to support project execution during engineering
design, engineering review, construction, and commissioning. He/She
will work closely with the Responsible Engineers on projects to review
and analyze bids and supplier submittals. He/She will work closely with
suppliers to review equipment designs and witness equipment tests.
He/She will work closely with Engineering Group Supervisors and
Mechanical Engineers from Construction and Startup to provide training
and oversight for proper installation and commissioning of critical
equipment. When needed, the Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist will
troubleshoot and solve technical problems with diesel engines for
nuclear safety related systems.

In addition, the Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist will write reports.
He/She will maintain a computer record of equipment operating experience
including vibration, performance and noise databases. He/She will
support other Specialists in developing process improvements.

The Diesel Engine - Nuclear Specialist will be expected to travel on
short notice, including significant international travel, up to 50% of
time.

Basic Qualifications:

Grade 26 requires 12 years Diesel Engine - Nuclear work experience.
Grade 27 requires 15 years Diesel Engine - Nuclear work experience.

P.E. License

BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Nuclear, or
Mechanical Engineering Technology).

Fundamental understanding of machinery testing standards and practices,
machinery vibration, vibration measurements, and analysis. Fundamental
understanding of Mechanical Engineering work processes.

Must have a solid knowledge of nuclear regulations including 10CFR50,
Regulatory Guides, Standard Review Plans and Branch Technical Positions.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Proficient
in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Currently possess the right to legally work and remain in the United
States without visa sponsorship.

Capable of passing nuclear security screening requirements and able to
obtain un escorted clearance to a nuclear power plant.

Physically capable to work around and on large machines and power
equipment, including the ability to climb and carry test equipment of up
to 40 lbs.

Must be willing to travel world wide on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Nuclear, or
Mechanical Engineering Technology).

Work experience with vibraiton and noise test equipment.

Work experience with computer databases (e.g., Access).

Understand quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
