Chief Fnancial Officer- Energy

Job Description: You will provide both operational and programmatic support to the organization.​ You will Supervise the finance unit and will be the chief financial spokesperson for the organization.​ You will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and directly assist the President and Vice Presidents on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and the securing of new funding.​



Strategic Management

· Work with the President/​CEO on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships on city, state, and national levels, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts.​

· Partner with the President/​CEO on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/​expense analysis

· Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team.​

· Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with company strategic plans.​



Financial and Operational Management

· Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the President/​CEO in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective programmatic budgets, and determining cost effectiveness of prospective service delivery.​

· Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits.​

· Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities for the organization including: organizational revenue/​expense and balance sheet reports, reports to funding agencies, development and monitoring of organizational and contract/​grant budgets.​

· Provide Vice Presidents with an operating budget.​ Work with the VP’s to ensure programmatic success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements.​

· Monitor banking activities of the organization.​

· Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization’s needs.​

· Oversee the production of monthly reports including reconciliations with funders and pension plan requirements, as we as financial statements and cash flow projection for use by Executive management, as well as the Audit/​Finance Committee and Board of Directors

· Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets.​

· Investigate cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits which the organization may offer employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals.​

· Oversee business insurance plans and health care coverage analysis.​

· Review all formal Finance and IT related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.​

· Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.​ Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit and compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements in is accordance with U.​S.​ GAAP and federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules and information.​







Team Management

· Develop and manage direct staff, to include managers in Finance and accounting; guide larger multi-disciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.​

· Train the Finance Unit and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters.​

· Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.​

· Assist in the design, implementation, and timely calculations of wage incentives, commissions, and salaries for the staff.​

· Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place.​

· Ensure that Finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals, and monitor the use of all funds.​

· Coordinate all audit activities.​

· Review all formal Finance and IT related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.​


Position Details:

Location: Franklin, TN (Nashville, TN)

Supervisory: Yes, you will have 3 direct reports and 20 indirect reports



Requirements: Firm has some very strict requirements that they are looking for when selecting their future Chief Financial Officer.​ You must have a Masters Degree and being a CPA is preferred.​ You must also have 5-7 years of experience as a CFO or an Controller (FC) for a small to medium sized company (50+​ people).​ The final KEY requirement is experience in the energy and/​or commodities trading industry.​ Prior investment banking (Public Market/​IPO) is a plus as well.​



Other requirements are:

· Ability to create and assess financial statements and budget documents.​

· Knowledge of General office software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite.​

· Ability to recognize and be responsive to the needs of all clients of the organization.​

· Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.​

· Ability to supervise staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement.​

· Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting.​

· Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.​
