Job Description
Basic Purpose
Through a subordinate management staff ensures compliant operations of the Laboratory`s Hazard Category 2 and 3 Nuclear Facilities. The position functions in full compliance with DOE, OSHA, NEPA, NRC, NFPA and Laboratory Orders, Directives and Standards pertaining to nuclear facility operations, configuration management and integrated safety management. Provides technical and policy guidance and communicates best practice and lessons learned.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Comprehensive: Comprehensive knowledge of nuclear facility operations and education/experience in nuclear engineering. Comprehensive understanding of criticality safety, handling of fissile and other radioactive materials, and engineering systems. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, NEC, NFPA, NEPA, and Laboratory safety policies and procedures. Comprehensive analytical skills and the ability to conduct needs analysis, root cause analysis, develop/communicate/implement best practice solutions and communicate lessons learned for the benefit of others in the nuclear arena. Comprehensive managerial and leadership skills and the ability to mentor, motivate and train a subordinate management/technical staff. Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop excellent working relationships with management and professional staff of varying technical expertise and levels and to achieve goals with the best advantage to the organization. Comprehensive technical skills and knowledge of system drawings, quality assurance requirements, PAAA and ORPS requirements, and radiological protection practices and requirements. Considerable: Considerable skills in the business management aspects of nuclear facility management, including human and capital resources and expenditures. Other: These levels of knowledge and skill are typically achieved with a minimum of a BS degree in nuclear engineering and fifteen years of directly applicable work experience. Ph.D. and 10+ years experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 12+ years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 15+ years experience/equivalent.
