This position is a replacement for a current employee who left the company on August 8, 2008. The incumbent will play a key role in the radiation protection program of a leading manufacturer of radioactive reagents for life sciences research. Under supervision of the Radiation Protection Manager the Radiation Safety Specialist (RSS) will conduct assignments and projects for the department in addition to performing clerical responsibilities. The RSS also provides technical radiological assistance to all PKI employees using sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
Performs radiation surveys in restricted and unrestricted areas using radiation / contamination instrumentation and associated equipment. Conducts periodic inspections & assessment, including data interpretation, identification of ancillary hazards, remediation of hazards, and survey documentation for ionizing & non-ionizing radiological hazards. Provides technical recommendations to employees to minimize radiation hazards. Participates in emergency training and responds to site radiological emergencies. Prepares data for evaluating radioactive material investigations. Maintains / calibrates portable and fixed radiological monitoring equipment. Performs daily effluent monitoring, bioassay processing and other routine RP tasks.
1. A BS degree in Health Physics or a related field with 1 - 3 years experience. 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong written and verbal communication skills are also preferred. |
