What is Specialty Contractor, Divisional Manager Job Description ?

Specialty Contractor Branch Manager or Divisional Manager has complete responsibility for managing the P&L and operations for the entire branch. He or she will be responsible for driving millions of dollars annually in specialty and general contracts which include maintaining and growing existing business plus development of new business. An entrepreneurial background and a degree in construction is preferable, however the right combination of relevant experience and skill sets will be considered in evaluating potential candidates for the position. The individual must be results oriented and have excellent business acumen. He or she must be a team player and customer focused. FUNCTIONAL SKILLS INCLUDE: Business Development - The individual must be able to successfully network in the local business community and industry organizations in order to increase market penetration and sales. He or she must have a well developed understanding of the local marketplace. Estimating, Developing Proposals, and Job Mark-up - The Branch Manager must have or develop a keen understanding of production rates and how to realistically and accurately estimate large projects. The individual must have the ability and a proven track record in the development of and following job budgets. Field Operations - The Branch Manager must be able to manage labor, material and equipment. He or she will be able to utilize appropriate landscape and construction management techniques. He or she will be responsible for the implementation of the company\'s safety program and be able to manage claims efficiently and in a timely manner. Project Management - (Job Management) - The Branch Manager assists in monitoring operational efficiencies and expenditures against job budget. He or she will ensure that the customer always has a contact at the branch and that the staff complete work according to contracts, plans and specifications, within budget and timeline; will understand the relationships between all types of customers (architect and owner) and has the ability to relate to all sides of a project. Financial and Back Office Management - The Branch Manager assists with preparation of monthly financial audits and workload projections. He or she supports and follows divisions\' administrative procedures. Assists with collection of accounts receivables on a timely basis. LEADERSHIP AND GENERAL MANAGEMENT CAPABILITIES INCLUDE: People - The Branch Manager attracts and develops strong professional staff and field labor. He or she manages the performance of employees through coaching and mentoring. Ensures that all branch employees receive appropriate performance evaluations and training. The ideal candidate will have been responsible for a diverse workforce of people in a similar service/construction environment. Strategy and Planning - The Branch Manager is instrumental in developing strategy and direction for the branch. He or she will be able to analyze information, pinpoint problems and suggest corrective actions at an aggregate level. Of prime interest will be efforts to determine how to effectively increase profitability and grow the business in the local market. Team Player - The Branch Manager works collaboratively with others and fosters positive \"people oriented\" environment. The Branch Manager has a style of management which gains the trust of the employees at all levels of the organization. Customer Focused - The Branch Manager is dedicated to meeting and exceeding the expectations and requirements of external and internal customers and works with the staff to ensure the same. He or she assists with issue resolution when problems arise between the customer and the project team. Language skills - 90 % of the labor force is Spanish speaking. Fluency in Spanish would be a plus but is not required.
