If you're asking this question, you're well on your way. Talk to friends and associates about what you want and how you think you're going to get it. Ask for advice, then listen even if the advice seems useless or out of place. The more people you talk to about what you are trying to do, the more perspectives you'll get. We aren't saying you have to follow the advice. We're saying that good advice can come from unexpected places. Communication builds networks, and networks lead to useful information and positions. Seek out experts who can help you, but don't discount the contacts and experience your 70 year-old grams might have gained in her many years in the workforce.
