In 1997, ONGC (National Oil Company of India) commissioned The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to develop a microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) technology to improve the production of its mature fields. Over the subsequent seven years, TERI scientists worked to advance the science that has been in marginal use for over 50 years. Between 2001 and 2004 their technical developments were used on 25 wells in 3 fields in India with extraordinary results.
Simultaneously, successful field wide MEOR flood projects were emerging in South America. Advanced biotechnology practices and operational protocols were combined with reservoir modeling and engineering to optimize ultimate oil recovery. The successful MEOR technology and implementation from these projects form GloriOil's foundation and creates the genesis of BEORâ„¢.
GloriOil was founded by GTI Group in late 2005. In late 2006, ground was broken on our state of the art manufacturing facility and research lab in Houston, Texas where microbial manufacturing is currently performed. In 2007 we expanded to South America where our lab in Argentina specializes in fluid dynamics and reservoir modeling while also providing additional microbiology support, research, and local field service.
Our research facility in India focuses primarily on long term R&D projects such as heavy oil degradation, methane biogeneration from coal beds, and other initiatives.
GloriOil also works extensively with industry, university, and government partners to further its research and development.
GloriOil connects biotechnology to the oil industry. Conventional oilfield technology typically extracts only one-third of all discovered oil, leaving significant crude underground. GloriOil focuses its proprietary, environmentally safe BEORâ„¢ technology on the remaining barrels; designing customized microbe and nutrient treatment systems that increase oil production and extend the life of mature oil fields.
