Mission Statement

Infinite Energy markets wholesale and retail energy products in an ethical and profitable manner. Infinite Energy grows the company by investing in quality personnel and quality business partnerships. Infinite Energy provides unparalleled customer service.
History

During the beginnings of a steamy Florida summer in 1994 Infinite Energy was created by two young utility energy buyers, Darin Cook and Rich Blaser, in Gainesville Florida. They felt that their knowledge of the wholesale natural gas markets in Florida coupled with the deregulation of the natural gas industry would allow their fledgling company a competitive advantage. Starting this type of company was no easy task. The conception of Infinite Energy actually occurred two years earlier. Finally funding was found after two years of persistent selling to potential backers, and Infinite Energy was birthed.

In those early but glorious days Infinite provided natural gas to utilities and large industrial customers. Because of focus and expertise Infinite did indeed gain a competitive advantage on price and became profitable within its third month of operation!

Infinite began to be an innovator of new products never seen before in the wholesale natural gas industry. Soon Infinite supplied the complete needs of utility companies such as Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA), Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) and Seminole Electric Company plus a host of smaller municipalities throughout Florida. To give a sense of the size of these accounts JEA and Seminole each consumed more than 50,000 decatherms of natural gas a DAY. The average household uses approximately 100 decatherms a YEAR.

In 1997 and 1998 Infinite began to experiment in the retail markets by supplying natural gas to less than 100 commercial accounts in Florida. These experiments foreshadowed what was soon to come. In November of 1998 Atlanta Gas Light completely deregulated their natural gas system. This allowed all consumers to purchase natural gas from a supplier of their choice. In the prior year Infinite participated in developing the rules for this to happen. Finally the fateful day came and Infinite was one of only a handful of marketers to have customers on the first day of deregulation in Georgia.

In December of 1999 an apartment complex management company that had 3000 units in Georgia approached Infinite to supply its natural gas needs. This was a tricky proposition for at that time Infinite billed manually and did not have a credit and collections department or customer service department. Infinite programmed a rudimentary billing system and developed all of the departments that they did not have. Once again Infinite innovated and began offering products in the retail industry that nobody else had. It started with giving apartment complexes a group bill. In those early years no one else had this and Infinite soon gained over 30,000 customers in the apartment community because of this advantage.

In 2004 Infinite brought its expertise and innovative products to the retail natural gas markets in New York and New Jersey. Quickly Infinite gained over 10,000 customers in those markets.

To bring new products to the market requires a tremendous amount of programming work. Infinite has over forty programmers on staff and an Information Technology department of nearly 90 people. We've become not only a natural gas company but a technology company that sells natural gas. This focus on technology allows us to develop products to serve the mass retail market that other marketers simply can not do.

In 1998 a sister company, Infinite Properties, purchased its first office building of 7800 square feet located on our beautiful and wooded Gainesville campus. In 2004, Infinite Properties finished constructing two additional buildings and Infinite Energy opened new offices in Marietta, Georgia and Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 2008, Infinite Properties completed construction of another building resulting in a beautiful integrated campus complex on 11 wooded acres and ~55,000 square feet of office space.

Infinite has just been named one of the best 25 large companies to work for in Florida. Infinite's excellent work environment translates to excellent products, innovation and service to our customers.

Now what does the future hold? Within the next year Infinite will be entering the Texas electricity market and bringing the multitudes of good products to a market starving for innovative products. We plan on beginning sales in 2010, but before we make our first sale all of our systems must be built. Nearly two thirds of Infinite's employees are helping the design and implementation of our software programming, trading operations, and customer support for us to enter this market.

Infinite celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. From the humble beginnings of the two entrepreneurs who started this company, Infinite now employs 350 people and did over $700 million in business in 2008. The exciting thing is that we have only just begun to grow.
