Harvest Energy Trust (the Trust) is an open-ended unincorporated investment trust. The purpose of the Trust is to indirectly exploit, develop and hold interests in petroleum and natural gas properties and refining and marketing assets through investments in the securities of its subsidiaries, and net profits interests in petroleum and natural gas properties. Harvest operates in Canada and has two reportable operating segments: Upstream and Downstream. Harvest?s upstream operations consist of development, production and subsequent sale of petroleum, natural gas and natural gas liquids, while its downstream operations include the purchase of crude oil, the refining of crude oil, the sale of the refined products, including a network of retail operations and the supply of refined products to commercial and wholesale customers.
