Rhino Resource Partners, L.P. is a producer and marketer of coal in Central and Northern Appalachia. The Company conducts business through two principal segments: Central Appalachia and Northern Appalachia. Rhino Resource Partners, L.P.'s Central Appalachian operations consist of three mining complexes: Tug River, Rob Fork and Deane, which together include 10 underground mines, six surface mines and five preparation and/or loadout facilities in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. Its Northern Appalachia segment consists of the Hopedale mining complex. During the year ended December 31, 2007, the Company produced approximately 7.1 million tons of coal and sold approximately 8.2 million tons of coal. In December 2007, it completed the acquisition of Sands Hill mining complex located in Northern Appalachia. In February 2008, the Company also completed the acquisition of Deane mining complex located in Central Appalachia.
