Special Energy Corporation (SEC), founded in 1979, is an aggressive, independent oil and gas operating company based in Stillwater, Oklahoma. SEC's primary focus is maximizing oil and gas production through innovative dewatering technology. Additionally, Special Energy develops conventional oil and gas plays in the Mid-Continental Region of the United States. The principals of Special Energy Corporation, John Special and Chris McCutchen, collectively have in excess of 60 years experience in the oil and natural gas industry. Central Oklahoma is Special Energy's backyard, and in the heart of the Hunton dewater resource play. The Hunton is a vast prolific carbonate reservoir capable of tremendous hydrocarbon and water recoveries when dewatering operations are implemented with experience and expertise. Conventional production techniques have been limited by the high salt water content of this reservoir. SEC has mastered an innovative dewatering process which separates the oil and gas from the water, returns the residual water deep into the earth's strata (the Arbuckle), and thus allows the collection of resources which were heretofore inaccessible. SEC, in conjunction with its affiliate Goober Drilling, is also adept at the technique of horizontal drilling. Earlier methods of planning a well involved drilling a single vertical well bore into the ground. With horizontal drilling, additional lateral bores are drilled outward from the vertical bore, greatly increasing the surface area for recovery and production of the oil and gas resources.
