Responsible for the East Coast region for one of the Nation’s Largest Golf Course Development Companies. Managed and directed the operations of each golf course project. Directly responsible for Region’s business development, growing the division over 50% over a 9 year period. I have been involved in over 70 Golf Course Projects ranging from renovations to new golf course developments and club-house construction. All these construction projects have been from ground breaking to completion. Each project involved Earthwork moving, Surveying, Development Infrastructure, Tee to Green Construction, Irrigation and Grassing. I was charged with bidding, budgeting and scheduling of all division golf course construction projects. Monitored monthly financial reports and project costs to identify problems and initiate appropriate corrective measures. Supervised and coordinated 8-10 projects annually with a $15-18M total annual budget. Negotiated contracts with as many as 10 sub-contractors and venders per project. Approved sub-contractors monthly submittals and pay requests. Processed submittals and monthly payment requests to our client’s. Formulated instructions and directives to 10 Construction Superintendents and 150-200 employees annually, and conducted annual reviews of these employees. Responsible for all the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the regional projects. Each project I worked very closely with the Golf Course Architect, Superintendent, Engineers, and the Owners Representative to insure the Teams goals where being accomplished. Supervised project feasibility and conducted value engineering for all projects to insure the best project for the dollar. Coordinate with other project departments to insure that all phases of the mission where on schedule, such as the development infrastructure. As the regional manager, I developed programs to evaluate the success of the project in terms of profitability, customer satisfaction and mission accomplishment. Each golf course project required close coordination with multiple State Soil and Water Conservation Agencies and State Departments of Environment and Natural Resources. Our business activity dealt with a fluctuating customer base. For example; Clients ranged from Country Clubs renovating their golf course to Developers building a new golf course community. Also the projects costs ranged from a $ 50,000.00 single Green Construction to a 15 million dollar, 27 Hole Golf Facility including the Club House and Maintenance building. 01/15/88 – 02/25/90, Construction/Growing Superintendent, Hope Plantation Golf Course, John’s Island, SC. Serve as Owner’s representative and tasked to oversee all phases of construction and maintenance of the golf course from the first shovel of dirt through the course’s opening round. Ensured the level of Quality Control met owner’s expectations. Worked closely with the Golf Course Architect during the earthwork moving, surveying and general construction of the golf course. Managed a $1.7M budget and the scheduling for every phase of construction up to and through the club’s daily maintenance and operations after opening day. Managed a workforce of 18 highly diverse golf course maintenance staff performing the mowing, fertilizing and general maintenance of the entire course. As the supervisor reviewed the actions of the subordinate employees. Singly charged with the procurement of all course supplies and club maintenance equipment to include mowers, tractors, sprayers, and utility vehicles. Oversaw the design and construction of the 4,000 square foot maintenance facility.
08/15/85 – 12/15/87, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Shady Oaks Country Club, Fort Worth, TX. Responsible for managing a highly diverse maintenance crew of 20, in all phases of course maintenance to include mowing, maintaining warm season grasses on tees, fairways, greens and roughs as well as the application of all fertilizers and chemicals. As a second level supervisor I reviewed the actions of these employees and directed them in the operation of the golf course. Over saw several small construction projects to include adding irrigation, renovating tees and resurfacing the putting greens. Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, TX was Ben Hogan’s home Golf Course.
