Crowder Construction Company – (03/1993 – 05/2008) a nationally recognized construction company with 900 employees that undertake $75 million of work annually. From March 1993, I have held various positions of responsibility within the company: from carpenter, to foreman, to lead foreman to area superintendent to project superintendent. A summary of my experience is provided below:
Area Superintendent, University of NC, Chapel Hill, NC; Superintendent Solutions Division-Helped to lead an thirty person team on a $20 million jobsite to construct, while excavating ground to a sublevel of 30 feet through chapel hill gravel with periods of solid rock bed, a 1-mile long, four-sided concrete steam via-duct/utility tunnel to facilitate 30-inch pipes from the steam plant to provide heat for University of North Carolina student resident halls and its Hospital.
Project Superintendent, International Paper Plant, Riegelwood, NC; Superintendent Solutions Division – led a team of 26 persons, to include an area supervisor and foreman, on a $2 million job which entailed the 30 foot excavation to sub level within an existing structure using a 108 crane; driving pilings; building concrete wall forms with anchor bolt placement, pouring massive equipment pads, and pouring a 1375 yard concrete slab to house a robotic paper machine. Completed the job two weeks ahead of schedule, without any safety issues and achieved a 23% profit and customer recognition – nominated for contractor safety award.
Area Superintendent, Parking Garage Project, Charlotte, NC; Superintendent Solutions Division –Helped to lead a team of 68 persons on a $22 million job to build a 4,000 car, five story concrete parking garage structure which included the construction of an elementary school playground on the top level. The entire structure required the completion of an Anchored Earth Retention System (soil nailing) on a vertical one to one slope to control and maintain safe excavation prior to start up of footers of the multi-story structure. The job was completed on time, without any safety issues, and the company realized a 23% profit margin.
Project Superintendent, Lake Michie Dam upgrades (a ca. 1923 Dam), Durham, NC; Superintendent Civil and Environmental Division – Supervised all sub-contractors and managed a $2 million job which entailed the repair and strengthening of a 1923 Dam, the #2 drinking water reservoir for the local area, and therefore a time critical project. This project included repairs to the earthen and concrete dams, to include galley steps, door and cosmetic repairs to the hydro-electrical building. The job, although it presented many hazards, e.g. use of watercraft, placement of rip raft, and rappelling of sub-contractors over deteriorating spillway, was completed without safety issues, ahead of schedule with a 44% profit.
Area Superintendent, Charlotte Courthouse extension, Charlotte, NC; Superintendent Civil and Environmental Division –Helped to manage and supervise over 30 personnel on the new $37 million, 11- story concrete Charlotte courthouse which included, overseeing the tying of the steel and sheathing, traffic control, scheduling and ordering concrete, staging and timing of delivery, all quality control and safety of the job site. The job required pouring over 500 yards per night to include the basement, tunnel access, and all suspended decks. After approximately 205,000 man-hours, the job was completed without any concrete requiring to be broken up, no safety issues and the company realized a 30% profit.
CMO Construction Company (03/1990 - 03/1993) – Owner operated business which focused primarily upon the residential home market and concentrated upon home improvement and remodeling. Typical services included: cabinet installation, building decks, porches, and sheds; room additions, window replacement; roofing; paneling; and vinyl siding installation. Business development was accomplished solely by word-of-mouth satisfaction of customers and quality of workmanship.
