Major Accomplishments
Managing safety in active manufacturing and construction areas as an independent consultant, industry environments have included union, non-union, heavy industry, construction as well as active manufacturing. While operating within these various areas I have achieved over One Million Man Hours without an OSHA recordable incident. As a contract employee I have worked for various companies in manufacturing and construction settings where I’ve contributed significant feedback in the area of production design as it related to organizational safety concerns and developing safety processes in various environments while fulfilling safety oversight roles; I have overseen the planning and delivery of several highly effective organizational safety workshops that improved dialogue between management and employees.
Responsibilities have included safety training for upwards of 450 people (orientations, fall protection, etc.), field audits, and incident investigations and development of processes that have significantly reduced injury rates and costs associated with workers compensation insurance and work place incidents.
These companies include;
Yonkers Industries: MERCK VMF 102 Project Safety Manager; successfully took control and developed a program that managed and monitored contractor safety programs and organized and trained area safety teams that took ownership of their safety and health concerns and I qualified the project for OSHA VPP status in only 3 months.
Morton Buildings; As the Director of EH&S I guided the safety program for a company, with 2500 fulltime employees, that operates in 40 states and has seven unique manufacturing plants. While fulfilling my considerable responsibilities I had four direct reports. I implemented programs that have reduced the incident rate by 30% and trained over 100 first line supervisors in the OSHA 30 hour program.
Kenny Construction Company, Project Safety Manager for a 100 Million Dollar Condominium Project administering a CCIP with over twenty participating companies.
Oak Park Chimney Corp where I oversaw the Safety Program for the Demolition of a 450’ Industrial Chimney working closely with WE Energy insuring all Safety and Environmental procedures were followed.
Eli Lilly I had oversight of several large scale demolition and construction projects.
Imperial Sugar where I re-wrote all Confined Space and Lock out Tag out Procedures for two of their sugar manufacturing facilities.
Dayton Power and Light, I managed the Safety for Black and Veach during a six month Cast Pile Project.
Northern Indiana Public Service Co I designed and implemented programs that safeguarded 100 Boilermakers during the removal and replacement of an 850 ton Boiler.
BMW Constructors I developed and refined safety policies and procedures that directly helped the company complete a successful refinery turn around with Exxon Mobile.
At US Steel I designed, wrote, implemented and conducted Safety Orientation training for over 450 trades people. I was also key in the re-writing of Aker Kvaerner’s Respiratory Protection Plan and the overhauling of their Site Specific Safety Training Curriculum other duties required the development of job specific Hazard Recognition, Risk Analysis, Risk Avoidance as well as the testing for and the abatement of Lead and Asbestos on several Heavy Industrial Projects.
As the Safety Director for Rockingham Steel I created and implemented a safety program and quality assurance program for the steel fabricator and was responsible for maintaining compliance to applicable state and federal safety and environmental requirements. This firm utilized contractors for projects and I managed the safety of these firms as they assembled steel structures for clients. Additionally, I participated in the estimation of projects, successfully integrating safety in the bidding phase of projects.
While in the military I maintained a Safety Program that was responsible for 24 helicopters, 53 vehicles and 300 service members. This program was among the top 1% of all Army Safety Programs for three consecutive years.
I have managed Safety Programs all over the world in various countries (Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand) and regions (Middle East, Central and South America, Europe as well as in Africa).
Performing the role of First Shift Supervisor/Safety Coordinator for MW Windows enabled me to directly supervise over 120 personnel and provide safety training that included new hire orientation, equipment usage training, forklift certifications, and safety training.
