Professional Experience
03/2008 to 10/2008 – Staff Generation Specialist, Contractor Services – First Energy Generation Corp –Akron, Ohio
Working from the General Office as well as plant locations, my primary duties were geared toward risk management and contractors performing turbine/boiler construction, repair, and maintenance conducted during scheduled and forced outages on fossil fuel electric generation plants, as well as air quality control projects. My duties required experience and knowledge of multi-discipline projects, construction techniques, safety requirements, and included:
• Labor relations between First Energy and Organized Labor Unions, operating under the National Maintenance Agreement (NMA) as well as local trade labor agreements.
• Development and deployment of an accurate labor requirement forecasting mechanism for future outage and capital projects
• Administration of the contractor employee drug testing program, which included development of a Microsoft Access database program to track employee status utilizing a multi user platform.
• Administration and development of the Contractor Work Sampling Program. This program tracked contractor productivity over a wide variety of tasks, based on field observations of work in progress.
• Development of the Contractor Safety Program which included tracking and analysis of incidence rates and the development of owner based initiatives geared toward a pro-active stance in enhancing work place safety.
• Attendance and participation in outage meetings, labor relation meetings, project status meetings, as well as fleet-wide operations meetings.
• Development of performance indicator metrics in the areas of contractor productivity and safety.

This assignment required prior knowledge and experience in multi-discipline industrial construction projects combined with the ability to quickly adapt to the particular specialties of combustion turbine generation plants. My project duties were centered on the CPM schedule for construction of General Electric FA-7E Duel Fuel Turbine/Generator Units and included:
• Development and daily maintenance of a Primavera P3 schedule that included over 1300 activities.
• Tracking progress through site walk downs and information provided by electrical, mechanical, and civil superintendents.

06/2007 to 12/2007
Project Manager on site - Ershigs, Inc. - Bellingham, Washington
Assigned to the J.M. Stuart DPL Generating Station - Aberdeen, Ohio (Black and Veatch, Construction Managers)The largest project of its kind in the world as of 2007, this flue gas de-sulferization project consisted of constructing site-wound fiberglass vessels and internal component assembly of Jet Bubbling Reactors (JBR) for the Dayton Power and Light Co. This scrubber project was several months behind upon my arrival on site, threatening critical outage dates for flue gas ties-ins. Working with a limited support staff, some of the highlights of the delivery of this project on time included:
• Repaired, developed, and maintained a good working relationship with the owner’s construction management team, addressing their concerns while protecting the best interest of the contractor.
• Instituted a computerized material and component inventory and delivery system which insured that critical materials were ordered and available when needed. Dedicated a team responsible solely for inventory and material handling
• Addressed the morale of the project labor force which was critically low. I took steps to repair damaged relations with the boilermakers union by working with the local business agent to address rank and file concerns and grievances. Re-organized the structure of field command and increased the work force from 70 to 185, relieving the stress of mandatory overtime and allowing a realistic schedule to be maintained.
• Expanded a P3 based construction schedule to include a WBS and all activities required. Developed schedule logic which enabled a legitimate critical path to be established. I maintained the Primavera schedule on a daily basis based on continuous site inspection and formally reported the schedule updates weekly to the construction manager and contractor headquarters.
• Developed and maintained a document control system to insure dissemination of revisions to the unit superintendents, maintained and transmitted daily reports to the construction manager and contractor main office. Instituted a computerized time-keeping system and a dedicated time clerk.
• Project Accounting – by diligently auditing purchase orders and material deliveries I was able to re-cover over $100,000 in invoicing errors made by suppliers. I also was able to return approximately $25,000 in hardware that was ordered incorrectly. A purchase order approval system was put in place to avoid these types of costly errors in the future.
• Aggressively managed the contract by a combination of thorough reporting to the owner and contractor’s corporate office, and a system of checks and balances to insure accountability at all levels. Effectively putting the project on schedule and within budget parameters.
