I started in the construction industry more than 35 years ago, working for my father’s general contracting firm that self-performed mass excavation and concrete construction building mainly gas stations in Chicago and Chicago suburbs having national accounts with Shell, Texaco, Marathon, Clark and Standard, to name a few. During this time I entered the carpenter union to attend my apprenticeship program and became a full fledged journeyman.
In the early 1970’s I was drafted into the armed forces and spent two years in the US Army with Army Engineer Corp. as a Structure Specialist (civilian acquired) training.
After my honorable discharge from the armed forces, I moved to Phoenix and worked mainly with concrete contractors in the commercial field building tilt wall construction while pursuing my construction degree. While pursuing my construction degree and receiving my associates degree, I went to work for a land developer building apartment complexes. I worked with this firm for over four years, learning management skills, scheduling, budgeting and supervision.
In 1980 I started Valley Concrete, a local concrete subcontractor. My work was all commercial. Notable projects built; Southwest Interior Design Center- Cactus & Tatum-tilt wall construction, Embassy Suites-Lincoln & Scottsdale Road, Embassy Suite-26th Street & Camelback. In 1988, when interest rates where nearing 19% the bottom fell out of my company along with 75% of the other contractors in the valley.
I then went to work with a fellow associate from a previous company, Ben Dobkins, who had his general contractor license and started Dobkins Construction. I became his estimator / project director. All of Dobkins Construction work was government projects through out the state. I worked for Mr. Dobkins until he retired in 1993. Along with general contracting, Dobkins Construction self-performed framing and concrete.
My knowledge of the construction industry has spread over 35years from the subcontracting aspects of wood framing and concrete to general contracting. Please refer to resume for additional education and work history I prefer full time work but would be willing to work part time if necessary.
