Collaborated with Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Manager of Electrical Engineering to develop and maintain corporate requirements for new store construction and remodels in the form of standard drawings, specifications, and data.
• Managed and contributed to exhaustive construction cost analysis. Reduced average new store cost by $567,800 base-lined to a standard design that was already lean and efficient at approximately $4 million per store.
• Integrated earth-friendly technologies into design standards including replacement of vinyl flooring with polished concrete, skylights and lighting controls, monitored energy management system, LED lighting, heat reclaim systems (capture “waste†heat from product refrigeration system), and high efficiency HVAC and refrigeration systems with no ozone depleting refrigerants. Contributed on project teams for 4 LEED grocery stores and applied lessons learned to corporate design standards to advance corporate green building effort.
• Co-chaired panel discussion, “Understanding the Components of a Successful Commissioning Program†at Craig Michaels, Inc., 2006 Sustainable Facilities Summit in San Diego, CA gaining recognition for SUPERVALU’s sustainable design programs.
• Initiated and led regular meetings with separate business units including Facilities, Security, Safety, Risk Management, IT, and Procurement to adapt standard design and processes to meet their needs. • Assembled, organized, and maintained web accessed library of equipment cut sheets to streamline flow of design data to project architects and engineers. Persuaded Store Planning to show manufacturer and model number for all equipment on fixture plans to maximize benefits of cut sheet library.
• Communicated revisions and updates to nationwide community of Project Manager Associates and their consulting architects and engineers assuring timely implementation of new design features and technologies.
• Educated Store Development Associates and their consulting architects and engineers in combined webinar/conference room venue. Subject matter included introduction to technical specification changes and modifications to design standards. Produced more consistent construction results nationwide for SUPERVALU.
• Wrote and edited master specifications. Led committees in detailed comparison of legacy SUPERVALU and Albertson’s standard specifications and managed integration of best practices from both into new SUPERVALU master specification producing a valuable tool for Store Development Department.
Senior Project Manager 1992-2005
Teamed with Real Estate Manager, Project Attorney, and Construction Manager developing new shopping centers, grocery stores, and fuel centers. Actively participated from site selection and entitlement through final inspection. Responsible for feasibility analyses, estimating, budgeting, site planning, design development, hiring consulting architects and engineers, construction documents, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
• Approved average $35 million in invoices per year and found errors and exceptions that saved Albertson’s $200,000 to $400,000 per year.
• Managed environmental remediation for 7 project sites including 4 major clean-ups that transformed unused land into valuable real estate.
• Primary contributor in 3 task forces assigned to “bench mark†Albertson’s standard drawings and specifications against major competitors to identify and adopt best practices.
