Interesting and enjoyable construction projects that can provide a respectable income. The projects may be short or long term. I intend to manage projects in one form or another for the next ten years.
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
COVER LETTER
Sirs:
I have experience in all phases of construction; laborer, mason tender, carpenter journeyman, concrete and masonry, plumbing and electrical, painting, equipment operator, estimator, superintendent, and project manager. The experience has been both union and non-union and I have worked on projects in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. I appreciate a well organized company that keeps performance data records for reference and has a useful managerial accounting format in place. If one is not in place, I can formulate such a system for the company.
A lot of my experience has resulted from people asking me to take care of things they were not familiar with, had no one to take care of those things, did not have the time to work on, or the government or industry came up with a new requirement or program and someone had to research and prepare something. I’ve always been that person and I don’t mind it. I don’t shrink away from doing things I may have never done before. With a little thought, research, and determination, most jobs can be managed correctly. Usually, I have continued to do my regular job assignments at the same time; multiple activities are generally not overwhelming.
I began years ago doing carpentry to earn money for college. After a while, I designed and built houses and did light commercial for 9 years as a licensed contractor. I then went to work for commercial firms and did much larger projects and never turned down a chance to try something more challenging. Between construction assignments, I’ve taught public school and college courses in management, PHE, contracts, and advanced accounting.
I wrote a safety program for the last company I was with (12 years) gathering input from my OSHA training, the company legal services, the various trade unions involved, and the state workers insurance people. I added onto it a drug program, employee assistance program, and a forklift training program that I also wrote. I implemented company wide training for the workmen, ran everyone thru the forklift training using a variety of equipment. The company received a large return on insurance premiums for two years in a row. Eventually, the program received national recognition. All this was done while I continued working as an estimator and project manager.
I have hands-on experience at a variety of trades and can judge quality on a first-hand basis. Feel free to call anytime; and thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
Art Bradford
