2005 to Present - Shell Ottawa, ON/Houston, TX
Management of the Americas Region Project Organization, which is part of the Shell Global Solutions Projects (GSP) organization. This team of project professionals is accountable for developing and executing projects for Shell’s Downstream, Gas & Power and Non-Traditional Businesses in North and South America. A member of the Leadership Team of the global projects organization.
Seconded into JV organization responsible for portfolio management of biofuels projects and front-end development of potential projects. Responsible for the successful early development of design and execution planning for a first-of-kind $600 mln cellulosic ethanol plant.
Project Director – Olefins Expansion & Compliance Project
12/1999 to 05/2005 – BP Amoco Chemical Co. Houston, TX
Management of a $350 mln capital project that assures compliance with strict environmental regulations while expanding the site ethylene production by 295 kta. Project includes both revamp and brownfield work scope with a mixture of lump-sum and reimbursable contracts. Responsible for management of the project from initial conception through basic design, detailed design, construction and startup.
Directing a highly skilled Owner management team of over 30 project professionals. Safety performance was exemplary with no lost-time incidents and just one OSHA recordable incident, resulting in a Recordable Incident Rate less than 0.10. Project was completed $10 mln under budget. These demonstrated results have been achieved through continuous focus on managing change, cost reduction and execution efficiency.
Project Manager – Paraxylene Project
10/1994 to 12/1999 – BP Amoco Chemical Co. UK and Belgium
Management of a $262 mln capital project to design and construct a new 420 kta paraxylene production facility. Project was completed with excellent safety performance and under budget. Gained significant international engineering and construction experience while managing basic and detailed engineering efforts in the UK and construction of the facility in Belgium. Also, worked closely with commercial development team negotiating with potential joint venture partners for the facility and final selection of a wholly owned facility.
Project Manager – Paraxylene Expansion Project
1/1994 to 10/1994 – Amoco Chemicals Chicago, IL
Responsible for front-end and detailed engineering phases of a $35 mln expansion project at an existing Amoco facility in the USA. Responsible for close partnership with the manufacturing organization to set priorities, risk assessment, execution strategy, and contractor selection.
Project Engineer – Amoco Chemicals Central Engineering
2/1989 to 1/1994 – Amoco Chemicals Chicago, IL
Worked on support and development of various projects for Paraxylene and PTA businesses, including development of basic design packages. Led small team including process and research engineers in a four-month design study with Chiyoda in Japan. Evaluated viability and economics of various projects in locations such as Venezuela, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
