The ability to read and comprehend required prints is a must. Knowing the purpose of Isometric drawings ability to provide north east west south up and down and identify the exact line number and provide me with material type and size requirements and often the correct degree of a particular fitting. These and most prints will have a Title block for system identification
and proper revision level as well as in commercial use the proper signatures of st fire-code and others.Flow charts P&IDs-loc
I believe the most important thing to properly install a good Hydronic heating systems is pipe size, SIZE does make a differance! Supply at the source will be larger and as the flow measured in fixture units is carried down stream to each destination and properly sized branches feed a package unit heating and cooling supply in at bottom out at top and then thru a balanceing valve and next to the Return line normaly larger than supply at the fartest ends of the system but gaining in size as req.
I do have a complete and competent understanding of water supply, drainage waste and vent system. I think one of the most important things to understand is why there are codes and how important it is to follow them.
First one should know that these codes were written often as a result of life and death realites. ANSI codes tell me what materials are compatable ie: ABS pipe is best joined to PVC by use of Fernco couplings and clamps because of requirements specified by manufacture.Victaulic&lube
