Throughout my career I have maintained the highest performance standards with any roles and responsibilities I was given--which, in turn, provided me multiple opportunities to lead special projects and quick promotions. These experiences have led me to a full understanding of the entire construction process from onsite application to functions of running a business.
My co-workers would say that I am a self-motivated, analytical, "take charge" person and have demonstrated strong leadership and initiative in addressing tough issues. I am currently seeking an opportunity to put my customer service, project management, and estimating skills to work in a more challenging environment.
You will see from our first meeting that I have a lot to offer your company to help you succeed.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, Michael P. Jacobs

Career History
MCI PAINT AND DRYWALL, Lakeville, MN 2008 - 2009
Senior Estimator
My responsibilities as senior estimator were to handle commercial and residential structural steel, drywall, and paint estimates. I worked with buyers and performed site visits to verify and confirm estimate accuracy. In addition my responsibilities included flash and projection reports with regular updates to company personnel.
I took the initiative of soliciting additional business for the company, while performing field visits and contract negotiations with clients.
I saved three clients from leaving within the first few months of hire. These clients stayed because of my diligence, attention to detail, and ability to meet their needs quickly. This also led to repeat business and additional business through referrals.
Hours of time where saved with each proposal due to changes I made to the original form, while keeping it with in the desired format of the company.
CENTEX HOMES, Minnetonka, MN 2001 - 2008
Project Manager and Estimator
During my tenure with Centex, I worked my way from an intern to a level three field manager in a very short period of time. As a field manager, I oversaw all the daily tasks to keep the project running on time and within budget. Responsibilities included daily inspections, homeowner meetings, problem solving with trades/inspectors, educating internal and external customers, budgeting, and customer warranties.
With my promotion to estimating I assumed the responsibility of estimating all areas of construction, value engineering plans, cost saving measures, internal client training, Performa budgeting, and purchase order negotiation/approval.
Additional responsibilities included the lead of three special projects; Variance Purchase Order system setup (division wide), Non-Standard Option system setup, and Customer Option simplification.
Project specialist for home construction,; this role allowed me to meet with field managers to find what was and wasn’t working in order for me to find solutions. My solutions saved time and money and brought consistency across the division.
Averaged $50 per closing on estimating variance, _ _ $350 lower than the company goal.
Reduced material returns and shortages, providing the field team what they need to do the job. This was done by reviewing estimates, monitoring installs, and working with installers and field managers to provide additional training on proper application.
Maintained 2% Performa accuracy for new neighborhood projections.
Successfully implemented the Variance Purchase Order Process in three months and established a tracking record. Streamlined and brought consistency to budgets, which aided in upper management decision making.
Averaged 93% customer satisfaction rating. My neighborhood continually won customer satisfaction awards compared to other communities with in the division. All while I was building the most complicated homes, at the fastest rate.
Reduced customer options by half in only a few months. Started with roughly 2,500 customer options and in only a few months had it down to 1,100. Because of the systems I put in place and vision I had the options have further greatly reduced.
Mn/DOT, Oakdale, MN 1999 - 2000
Surveys Student Intern
My experience in surveys covered a wide range of responsibilities. I worked on highway construction as well as preformed location work. Some of my construction duties included establishing new control points, shooting road elevations, finding right-of-way, and bridge construction. When I was working with location I was shooting topography for new roadways, finding existing control points, gathering field data of existing structures, and establishing centerline for future highways.
