Skills
In my own house, I designed, installed the sub base, and laid the ceramic tile flooring and did the grouting in my living and dinning room in June 2006. In 1997, I designed and cut Plexiglas to construct an enclosed porch on my home. When I built my house in 1988, I laid out the house for the excavator; hand dug the footers, framed the form work for the foundation footers, and poured the footers. I also lay out, installed the form work, and poured several concrete pads for the stairway base, a load bearing beam in the basement, and for the fireplace hearth. I assisted in the building of the split block walls, at my house by mixing the mortar for the masons, as well as mixing the mortar to fill in the split block walls, as per Frederick County Building Code. I also waterproofed the block walls below grade. I changed the design for our balcony railing to meet the Frederick County Building Code and measured, cut, and installed the hand railing for the balcony and stairway. This design passed the final inspection with Frederick County Department of Permits. I also refinished all of my interior doors, as well as reinstalled them, stained all my finish trim on the doors. I have painted the drywall in my home, as well as, stained my cedar siding at my home. I have built several pieces of furniture: bookshelves and the console with glass shelves to hold my wide screen television. I refinished several pieces of furniture by sanding, staining and waxing our coffee table, end table, dinning room table and my daughter’s desk. I have repaired and stained my wood siding and rebuilt the wood moldings for the exterior doors jambs on my house. As a carpenter, I have not remained stagnate and have honed my craftsmanship over my 30 years in the building business and have expanded my knowledge of construction by learning from other trades, such as plumbing and electrical. I know how to size the electrical wires and the circuit breakers for the amperage. I know how to wire light outlets, panels, fans, and all residential wiring, as I installed the electrical system in the home I now reside in and this system passed both the rough and finish inspections by the Electrical Inspector of Frederick County. I replaced the heating element in our home hot water heater and I installed a new zone valves and a new circulation pump in our oil fired furnace, by reading and interpreting the manuals. I also do the yearly cleaning on our furnace. I also have knowledge of plumbing as, I replaced the pressure tank and switch for holding our water from our well. I installed all new Moen plumbing fixtures in my bathrooms.
