Dear Sirs:
Primarily, my most recent work experience working with Homestead Concrete involved bidding commercial and
Industrial developments such as fire stations, schools, hospitals, parks, recreational centers, water treatment plants,
Pre-engineered buildings and government offices. My main duties consisted of preparing structural concrete takeoffs for water & waste water treatment plants, water control infrastructures (locks, weirs, & spillways), highway retaining walls, airport concourses, tunnels, and coastal walls (1 – 30 million dollar range) for various government entities such as for SFWMD, Army Corp of Engineers, FP&L, MDWASD, US Coast Guard, FDOT, and various local municipalities. I also managed the company’s commercial division, bidding division of trades (2,000 to 17,000), entering into competitive bid environments with other primes, producing in house material quantity takeoffs, qualifying subcontractor (RFQ) scopes of work, value engineering work, and evaluating materials to meet specification criteria. As the company’s lead estimator my duties were to head up all the structural concrete bids for various infrastructures and water treatment plants, as well as targeting about a 1/2 to 2/3 of the new capital improvement projects being released in the Miami Dade County area. Our department successfully bid an average of 50 to 70 commercial developments, annually, and generated revenues to exceed 15 – 25 million dollars in addition to the revenues that we generated for all structural concrete work that we preformed for existing clients (25M). Finally, I also served as the company’s project engineer preparing submittals, requesting shop drawings, preparing payment application, issuing contracts, issuing purchase orders, producing change orders, maintaining schedules, and keeping track of project costs and backlogs.
Secondly, I Worked as a civil estimator for the Redland Company estimating excavation, trench, underground utilities, and road work. Our main line of work consisted in bidding, turnkey, total land developments for single & multifamily subdivisions, parking lots, municipal parks, shopping malls, and commercial developments such as for Wal-Mart, Publix, CVS, Target, and Office Max. We also bid various municipal and county wide right of way (R.O.W.) improvements, parks & recreational centers (5 - 100 acres), embankment stabilization work, pump station retrofits, storm water culvert improvements, and highway lanes widening (10 - 100 million dollar range). My primary duties consisted of calculating quantities for earthwork (cut / fill / balance), land clearing, sub grades, base courses, structural courses, fill materials, dry retention areas, as well as trucking, mobilizations, and MOT’s. I also prepared material takeoffs on concrete work, water mains, sewer mains, force mains, storm drainage, pipe encasements, jack & bore, lift stations, restorations, as well as miscellaneous items for brick paving, colored concrete, fences, guard rail, landscaping, irrigation, and erosion control.
Finally, I worked as an owner representative for a local construction development company named Ocean Club
Development Company. This project consisted of managing the construction of multiple high rise and mid rise Condominium towers, club houses, pools, tennis courts, ocean front cabanas, and other amenities (480M). My duties consisted of processing and managing plans, RFI’s, submittals, revisions, permits, and history sets. I processed documents from the initial bid phase, to the submittal phase, the change order phase, and finally the close-out phase of construction. I also maintained relations, scheduled meetings, and provided documents for owners, PM’s, contractors, realtors, and inspectors. I feel I would be a suitable candidate for your company with the education, skills, and experience I possess.
Sincerely,
Ivan Lara
