WORK EXPERIENCE
NSA Architects Engineers Planners (Farmington Hills, ML)
A/E Field Representative 12/2004 – 4/2008.
The responsibility of observing construction and evaluating compliance with documents was done on the two new campuses for Erickson Retirement Communities, in the Chicagoland Area. Building construction varied from precast parking decks to steel panel bearing wall residential buildings. Documenting unacceptable conditions, coordinating the resolution of the same, following construction progress, comparing progress to schedule, and reviewing pay applications with change orders were all part of the work
Primera Engineers & Architects (Chicago, IL)
Construction Field Manager 4/ 1998 – 12/2004.
As a Construction Field Manager for Primera my services are contracted to Tishman Construction Corporation to complement their construction management team, which is doing renovations for the Chicago Public Schools. In this capacity I coordinated contracts for up to seven schools at one time. My responsibilities are to observe construction, evaluate schedules, review and approve pay requests for processing, and coordinate the interface between the architect, the contractor, and the schools.
Healy, Snyder, Bender & Associates (Naperville, IL)
Field Representative 7/1991 – 4/1998.
As architectural field representative, my primary responsibility was to observe construction and compliance with bid documents for multiple projects. This simple definition does not adequately describe the tasks involved in this work. The field representative is the eyes and ears for the engineers of all trades: mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural. It is necessary to understand the design intent of the building and code requirements to do this. I was the liaison between the owner and the contractors, reviewing on behalf of the owner all change orders and pay requests to assure that they are in order, not exceeding present construction status. This position is also the good-will ambassador for the architectural firm, informing the owners of the status of their projects, including necessary corrections for problems. I expedited solutions so that construction is not interrupted unnecessarily. All this is done through periodic job site visits and continual reporting too the principals of the company.
Teng and Associates (Chicago, IL)
Project Representative 6/1990 – 7/1991
The responsibilities of a Project Representative on a design/build project begin with coordination of the incomplete phases (electrical & mechanical) to assure that the bidding of these phases proceeds as scheduled without interfering with the project schedule. During this time and throughout the project I observed all construction to assure compliance with bid documents and OSHA regulations. Because this was a design/build project, I flagged potential problems and coordinated required changes and requests for information between engineering and construction so that the construction process was not affected. As part of coordination to keep the job moving and to meet cost requirements, I generated hand sketches and drafted documents as needed, which resulted in appropriate changed orders, which were reviewed for accuracy. When problems did arise, I created or assisted with solutions in order to see that the project stayed within budget and time constraints. Other duties included processing pay requests, reviewing pre-bids for pricing completeness, and giving site tours for municipal inspectors as they reviewed the project for compliance with laws and ordinances.
