PECOR Division (Pennsylvania Engineering Corporation) Owner & Vice President: 1996 to present
I managed the manufacturing operations of this steel fabrication plant consisting of 23 shop floor employees plus crew leaders and foreman. The staff consisted of two salesmen; two to three Project Managers, two Mechanical Engineers and five Draftsmen, purchasing and estimating departments and the office staff. The work was managed both in-house and in the field on overall projects, ranging up to $20 million. Projects varied from mobile equipment, Coke Pusher Charger machines, Transfer Cars, to stationery equipment, Ladles, Patented Fabricated Slag Pots and Scrap Buckets and Systems. I taking into consideration the efficiency and capability of the steel plant determined the end design, which were 200,000 sq. ft. 80,000manufacture, 20,000 storage and inventory. The balance of the footage was leased to a graphite operation for storage, mixing and handling, all movement of graphite was done by my additional employees, four to eight, as needed, sometimes outsourced when volume dictated.
The PECOR Intellectual Properties which I own, include patents, copyrights, drawings and manuals which gives me the ability to quote projects using the PECOR experience dating back to 1880.
At the present time, PECOR has closed its fabrication shop, and is now sourcing out its work; however, I am continuing to answer inquiries and obtain sales, while overseeing engineering and sourcing.
PECOR’s shop also did fabrication of structural steel projects for the commercial and industrial construction industry.
During this period of time I have successfully managed multiple projects, simultaneously, keeping projects on schedule and within budget, while at the same time offering customers insight in value engineering.
Recent Major Projects for the Metals Industry:
Pusher Charger machine for Sun Coal and Coke, Indiana Harbor. Clam Shell Scrap Buckets, Slag Pots and Ladles for ArcelorMittal, IPSCO, NKK, Gerdau Ameristeel and others. Various Transfer Cars for HYLSA, and Mittal Steel. Hot Metal Cars for Weirton Steel, China Steel and SiderPeru. During this period of time I engineered, designed, and manufactured, various other projects requested by the customers, e.g., J-Hooks, Scrap Charging Systems, plus equipment repair and modification.
Manufactured 16’ Dia. Exhaust Duct to First Energy, Midland, PA. This Exhaust Duct was shipped via river barges.
Fabricated 1,000 cu. ft. Slag Pots, weighing 98,000 lbs each, and shipped to U.S. Steel - these Fabricated Slag Pots are of my design and a Patent in my name has the Rights Reserved.
VICE PRESIDENT and GENERAL MANAGER: (1994 to 1996)
Managed personnel, in the mechanical engineering, design and manufacture of Dynamometers, for an international company specializing in heavy industry and domestic vehicles. Implemented new designs, resulting in substantial increase in orders and profit.
CONSULTANT - VICE PRESIDENT and DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS: (1992 to 1994)
Hired as a Consultant and later became Director of Operations to supervise the engineering, purchasing, fabrication, shipping and installation of a Sulfur Dioxide Plant that was designed in Houston, Texas, fabricated in Sealy, Texas, and shipped to Olin Chemical in Cleveland, Tennessee. This project totaling $18 million was behind schedule and heading to be over budget, I improved the schedule, and completed on budget.
Following this period I was instrumental in the installation of a Scrubber System for the ALCOA power plant at ALCOA Aluminum Evansville, Indiana.

Trouble Shooting and Manufacturing Operation Consultant: (1986 to 1991)
MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT – Plant Manager and Project Engineering: (1982 to 1986)
Managed three plants producing Silicon Carbide products with sales in excess of $40 million. During the first year with this company, I oversaw the expansion of these facilities to increase output from 250 tons to over 1,000 tons per month in two of the three plants, and doubled the third.
Initially, all three plants were in a severe state of disrepair. I created a plan, and with careful evaluation of needs in both production methods and personnel, recruited energetic, competent people and revitalized the utilization of equipment.
Initiatives included increase in plant electric furnaces from 7 to 12 - devised and implemented improved cooling methods thereby cutting furnace turnaround time 25%; acquisition and erection of pre-engineered building, increased performance incentives at the bulk packaging plant to stimulate and increase productivity.
PLANT ENGINEER: (1968 to 1972)
Reported directly to the president of this national manufacturer of painted, pre-engineered metal buildings, and metal siding. Scheduled manufacturing in three plants - coordinated delivery and erection of materials, and continually improved on in-house production and customer satisfaction.
PLANT MANAGER and PLANT ENGINEER: (1966 to 1968)
A national pipe threading and steel fabrication company with plants in the Eastern United States - two locations in Texas and one in California. Devised methods to re-organize plants, material flow patterns - succeed in improving fabrication operations and quality of products. This led to an assignment at the California plant to supervise 62 plant personnel; identified and installed new machinery; managed budgeting and personnel thereby increasing production from 1,500 tons to 2,700 tons per month. This plant was expanded from one to three shifts.

AMERICAN CONTRACTORS, Inc. Vice President (1977 to 1982)
On a national level, I negotiated and obtained, competitively bid public and private sector projects, including design-built projects, e.g., schools, office and municipal buildings, supermarkets and transportation depots. Managed the design and construction of industrial manufacturing plants - each project having a multi-million dollar cost.
Streamlined the operations of a mid-sized concrete and masonry company, resulting in a decrease in overhead and a notable increase in profits by 13% the first year. Negotiated with insurance companies to acquire the necessary bonding and launched a commercial contracting business building fast food restaurants (completing a maximum of forty (40) units the first two years)
Increased operations to bid and build various Government and Armed Forces Facilities.
Expanded business into the State of Florida - responsible for both operations; recruited, hired and supervised all estimating/ engineering personnel; responsible for supervision of project managers, value engineering, buy-outs, cost control and acquisition of all negotiated and competitively bid projects; administrative and accounting department managers reported to me on a daily basis.
GENERAL MANAGER and PROJECT ENGINEER: (1972 to 1977)
General contractor and subcontractor in the construction of multi-family housing, commercial structures and miscellaneous interior mechanical installations; designed and manufactured building components including manufactured pre-panelized homes, apartment buildings, floor and roof trusses. Joined with subcontractor to form ACI.

My strengths in maximizing production efficiency, solving problems, writing and negotiating contracts, arranging financing for operating cash flow, budgeting, financial planning and new product development, resulted in increased plant production line tripling the capacity that was accomplished through my strengths in negotiating attractive pricing of rebuilt equipment. A 200% increase in production was delivered with equipment costing 50% less than the original machine. Key contribution negotiation of contracts; devised and set-up a manufacturing facility. In the component manufacturing plant I achieved superior productivity, implemented new, or improved production methods and design revisions, reduced product costs 10% - 30%; supervised projects in excess of $1.8 million.
