Performs masonry work; does related work as required. Under minimal to no supervision, performs maintenance, repair and construction of masonry work. Work assignments are initiated by oral instructions or written work orders and are checked during the course of and upon completion by superiors.
Summary of Qualifications
· 15 Years performing duties as a mason; i.e., constructs block and/or brick catch basins, drops inlets, retaining walls, support structures, etc.;
· Performs finish concrete work, installs concrete reinforcing steel, places concrete, mixes mortar, pargets block or brick work;
· Erects staging or scaffolding if the job requires it;
· Screens sand, mixing it with cement and water to obtain consistency necessary;
· Adds coloring substance to mortar to match stone color if required;
· Checks plumb and level of masonry work;
· Erects wooden or metal supports to hold repair in place during setting time;
· Smoothes cement mortar and removes excess material with trowel;
· Recommends needed repairs estimating man hour requirements and material needs for each job;
· Performs related work on other stone structures such as fireplaces, buildings, ornamental figures, etc.;
· Perform duties as a carpenter; i.e., construct forms for concrete, partitions, minor cabinetry, etc.;
· May perform in operation of compressor and related equipment.
· Knowledge of the tools, techniques, methods and materials associated with the stone masonry trade;
· Block-cinder and concrete; stone naturk and cultured; building lay read blue prints; concert finish and form setting; footing lay out set up; set up speed leads on steam; use builders level; run cut off saw and run brick saw;
· Knowledge of the accident and safety precautions of the trade; ability to recognize and to recommend the need for stone masonry repairs and to make such repairs; ability to distinguish high grades from inferior grades of stone; ability to read blueprints, sketches, and drawings; initiative in undertaking and completing assigned work; good judgment in determining the exact nature of the masonry repairs to be made; physical strength and agility; physical condition
