To secure the position of Superintendent or in a construction management position, and have the opportunity to advance according to my skills and work habits. I would like to obtain a long term opportunity and work in a professional environment, but I would consider short term project.
Superintendent Experience
I have been a superintendent since March of 1998, and in a leadership role most of my construction career which started in 1975. I have been a superintendent in Iowa, Florida and Georgia. I have built in a variety of soils and situations. I did a four month internship in estimating in 1997 and I can also do project managing. I am well rounded in construction management.
General Construction Experience
Carpenter: (Framing, Form work, Concrete & General Carpentry)
I first started as a carpenter in 1975 for Ridgeway Construction.
After his death in late 1977 I went to work for Living History Farms here in Des Moines. I was hired under a federal grant for one year as a carpenter but ended up working in the Public Relation department. This gave me the opportunity to obtain the skills needed to work with people.
In 1980 I entered the US Air Force where I learned the importance of organization and team work. Since returning home from the Air Force in 1984 I have spent the majority of my life in the construction industry.
In 1993 I joined the carpenters union to further my construction knowledge, Up until 1993 I was building homes and my commercial building knowledge was limited. As a union member I was exposed to the more intricate details of project building.
After being a carpenter since 1975 I have built no less than a hundred homes and have played a role in the building of some of the finest buildings in the country, such as, the Employers Mutual Insurance Company corporate building in Des Moines, Iowa, (19 floors, 327 feet) Harvey’s Casino on the Missouri River in Council Bluffs Iowa. (6 floors, curtain walls, interior build out) and the Regency Hyatt in Bonita Springs Florida. These are just three examples of very large projects I have worked on in the past. I can truly say that I not only possess the ability, knowledge and skill to build projects, I also have the patience to deal with sub-contractor and clients.
Education
I grew up in West Des Moines Iowa and attended the school system there and completed the required courses. Through the union I took several courses and completed them such as, 10 hr. OSHA safety course, basic auto cad 2000, scaffold building safety and much more. Although I have no four year degree, I do have something just as good, twenty years of OJT by some of the finest people you would ever want to work with.
