Built a two-story three-car garage and in-law apartment addition to private residence. Miscellaneous remodeling projects, including roof replacement, basement finishing, and concrete sidewalks and steps. Office management work included processing all accounts receivables, payables, design work, procurement of all materials, cost estimating and payroll.

Project Engineer managing several projects that included the restoration of two historic residential buildings on Beacon Hill in Boston Massachusetts. Work included the development of schedules, contractor specifications, scopes of work & bid packages. Managed subcontractors & architect from bidding through closeout of both projects. This included the review and approval of design documents; permit procedures & applications, contracts, change orders, invoices, and procuring of materials. Oversaw and inspected all aspects of construction from foundation to roof including structural modifications with wood & steel structural members, elevator & dumbwaiter installation, electrical, security, fire protection, mechanical systems, insulation, blue board & plaster, millwork, tile & stone work, window & doors, landscaping including drainage, brick paver, wrought iron stairs & railings, brick façade repair and pointing, roof repairs & replacement w/ copper, slate, rubber membrane & asphalt shingles, and mechanically operated skylight/roof hatch. Other projects included participation with a team of engineers in the operation of an Indirect Thermal Treatment Facility for contaminated soil. This included the development of a parts & inventory tracking system for spare parts of the plant. Also participated in the development & implementation of several efficiency programs and product installations. Developed an understanding of belt & screw conveyors, air sweeps, bag houses, kilns, contaminated air handling equipment, and quench towers. Also managed the restoration of several railroad bridges on a state funded rail to trail project. Restoration included water diversion for abutment & pier repairs, structural steel cleaning and replacement, deck repairs and complete deck replacements. Assisted in managing the reconstruction of city road & sidewalk projects. Performed estimating on several types of projects including environmental cleanup, landfill closures & expansions, building demolition, and building construction. Assistant Project Engineer responsible for processing submittals & shop drawings, prepared bid packages. Performed material quantity takeoffs and organized procurement of materials. Responsible for communication between subcontractors in the field, excavation layout, concrete formwork & reinforcing steel inspection, and layout & inspection of a Polyclon Pipe disposal trench installation.

Inspected Contractor’s work, which included, quality assurance of the Contractor’s Quality Control Program. Inspected the operation and installation of tiebacks for an earth retention system, of circular steel sheeted cofferdams, of drainage system, which included catch basins, manholes, and an oil water separator. Inspected environmental measures taken by the Contractor to ensure compliance with the environmental permits.

Responsible for administration and technical support activities of the Area I Construction Office consisting of construction of highways in Cut & Cover Tunnels, Immersed Tube Tunnels, Boat Sections, Special Haul Road and Surface Roads. Reviewed the following for legibility, accuracy, and completeness: noted problems and made recommendations as required; engineer’s payment estimates, subcontractor approvals, field office project files, contract drawings, specifications, CPM schedules, material testing results, engineer’s daily reports, and project procedures. Conducted activities with Resident Engineers, field & office staff, contractor’s representative, public agencies & others as required. Assigned to the Massachusetts Highway Department Deputy Project Director. Established and maintained the following; Design Submittal Tracking System, Action Item List for Directors Staff, and Project Management Deliverable Tracking System. Provided computer support to all Highway Department personnel. Coordinated schedules, critical issues to resolution, assisted in the day-to-day coordination between Highway department staff and Bechtel/ Parsons JV management staff. Coordinated office space planning and staff relocation during project expansion.
Assistant Structural Engineer July 1989 – May 1991
Held the Lead staff position for the Design Departments budget and staff planning for the negotiation of the Joint Venture’s consulting contract with the client. Participated on a design team responsible for developing & preparing structural type studies, preliminary engineering, and construction staging drawings. Also, developed the process for mathematizing horizontal and vertical highway alignment, utilizing various software packages including CADD, Structural Analysis, spreadsheets, and databases. The above work was performed for the Central Area of highway construction consisting of tunnels, boat sections, and viaducts. Prepared presentations and a technical article on the above process to senior staff.

Interpolated contour plans and adjusted existing conditions. Set new manholes, drain inlets and reset existing structures. Participated on a survey crew managing the field engineering for the construction of a shopping mall and relocation of a precast concrete plant. This work included layout for the earth moving operation, drilling & blasting zones, cut & fill zones, and concrete pile driving operation.
