ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Result driven individual with experience in building MP&E, tenant fitout and industrial plant upgrades. Industrial plants included nuclear power plants, petroleum refining facilities and chemical plants. I am requesting consideration as a Project Manager or Electrical Project Engineer, based on my thorough understanding of MP&E related requirements with particular background in electrical power distribution/lighting, DDC systems, fire alarm, security and CCTV. I can perform all work as indicated related to numerous types of projects including office buildings, residential mid and high rise buildings, educational schools and universities, healthcare hospitals and nursing homes, commercial malls and strip stores, process plants, pharmaceutical clean room condition applications and industrial facilities. My focus on teamwork and commitment to the project is paramount to the satisfaction of the clients, other design disciplines, the installation contractors and the employer that I represent through my proficiency in the systems and services as listed herein.
DISCIPLINES
- ELECTRICAL power distribution and service entrance metering, switchgear/transformers through secondary distribution, high voltage transmission and distribution, emergency generators, UPS, Automatic Transfer Switches, exterior and interior lighting, grounding, fire alarm, security, CCTV and card access systems.
- HVAC methodology options, packaged air handlers with VAV boxes including heating coils, thru-wall units, horizontal heat pumps, exhaust fans, cabinet unit heaters, unit heaters, central plant boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers and circulating pumps.
- FIRE WATER service entrance including fire pumps, wet & dry sprinkler distribution piping and head locations, OS&Y standpipes, flow valves/tamper switches.
- DOMESTIC WATER service entrance including metering, potable water heaters, circulating pumps and distribution piping.
- SANITARY public tie-in, riser diagrams, lift stations where required, grease traps and holding tanks in kitchens, backflow preventers, distribution piping and venting.

COORDINATION AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design discipline coordination, i.e. architectural, structural, civil, landscape architectural and kitchen consultants where required.
- Client/customer negotiations and coordination including costing options, time schedules, ongoing status reports and punch listing.
- Regulatory approvals including DCA (where applicable), health department, local municipalities, fire marshal and building permits.
- Contractor meetings, negotiations and awards including AIA contract awards with the primary mechanical and electrical contractors of record and subcontractors, i.e. sheetmetal, duct and hydronic piping insulators, fire alarm, DDC and other system etc.
- Documentation, construction scheduling and record keeping of all MP&E work from the initial negotiations through the granting of the Certificate of Occupancy.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2004 to 2009 THOMAS S. CAPPA ASSOC, Spring House, Pa. – Owner
Controls wiring installation firm providing low voltage DDC (direct digital control) of air distribution equipment, central plant hydronics, using TWSP #22 or CAT5 wiring and EMT raceways. Also building panels using Hoffman boxes w/subpanels, Buchanan medium duty terminals and Wiremold. Projects included Metropolitan Plaza 14 story office building, Shafer ES, Hatboro-Horsham HS classroom addition, Lehigh Valley Airport concourse addition, Asplundh Field House, etc. Also lighting system upgrades including electric bill review analysis, preparing retrofit estimates replacing 4 tube fluorescent fixtures with 2 lamp/aluminum reflectors/electronic ballasts, incandescents to compact fluorescents, exit signs retrofit to LED’s etc. Projects included Gold Seal Office building (6 story, 300,000sf), McNeal Packing building (200,000sf) and Bergey’s Auto, showroom, offices and repair bays (150,000sf).
1997 to 2004 MC ENGINEERING CO, Atlantic City, NJ – Vice President/Co-owner
Provided project design management of all MP&E renovations and upgrade work for Trump Plaza, Trump Castle, Trump Taj Mahal, Sands Hotel & Casino, Geriatric Medical healthcare nursing homes, Ventnor, NJ middle school, Atlantic City Palace (34 story) smoke evacuation fire alarm system upgrade design, etc. Developed the client base of architects, developers, municipalities preparing AIA C141 contracts. This included supervision of MP&E engineers and autoCAD release 12 designers/draftsman for all working drawings and division 15 and 16 computer software specifications. Also equipment selection for all air handlers, VAV boxes, boilers, cooling towers, chillers, circulating pumps, transformers, switchgear, emergency generators, etc. Also meetings with the AC health department, DCA, the fire marshal and all local municipal agencies having jurisdiction over each project.

1990 to 1997 SE DESIGN CO, Bridgewater, NJ – Contract Project Manager
Project management of numerous pumping stations and WTP facility for Elizabethtown Water Co. writing lockout tagout procedures for all electrical distribution equipment. Also a project for Alfa Laval, a lime processing facility providing light and power distribution/equipment selection i.e. 4160/480 transformers, VFD motor starters, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, UPS, emergency generators and 480V motor control centers (manufacturers: Allen-Bradley, Cutler & Hammer, General Electric and PLC by Square D). Additionally, pharmaceutical facilities for Bristol-Myer Squibb and Merck for clean room conditions, providing light & power distribution (manufacturers: Hubbell, Crouse-Hinds, Progress Lighting, Lightolier, Allen-Bradley, etc). Supervision of autoCAD release 12 working drawings and divisions 15 & 16 computer software specifications.
1984 to 1990 ALLSTATES D&D CO, Langhorne, Pa. – Electrical Project Leader
Management and client coordination on a film processing plant for Dupont Co. Inhouse development of working drawings and division 16 specifications for all lighting and power system control (one line diagrams, schematics and interconnection diagrams). Manpower supervision of designers and autoCAD release 12 documentation and computer software. Controls via Gould Modicon PLC mainframe and Cutler-Hammer power distribution equipment.
1981 to 1984 GENERAL ELECTRIC, Limerick Station - Contract Electrical Engineer
Worked on the unit #1 BWR reactor nuclear power plant in charge of design coordination per the GE system computer software in providing documentation. Clearance achieved DOE (inactive). Systems included; high & low pressure pumps, component cooling pumps, containment spray pumps, reactor control rods, etc. Systems included redundancy for power distribution and control of all essential systems.
1979 to 1981 FOSTER WHEELER, Paulsboro, NJ, Contract Site Electrical Engineer
Worked in the field on the cracking plant and tank farm areas power distribution requirements including equipment specifications for VFD motor starters, i.e. Allen-Bradley, Westinghouse and Crouse-Hinds explosion proof products.
1978 to 1979 HONEYWELL, Dresher, Pa. – Contract Electrical Design Engineer
Worked on the Aramco project oil refining facilities in Saudi Arabia. Developed instrumentation and control schematics and interconnection diagrams, for the marshalling boxes built in the King of Prussia fabrication shop including specification of panel boxes, terminals and wireways. Also panel inspections, bench calibration of all instruments and system testing prior to off shore shipment.

1975 to 1978 UNITED ENGINEERS, Phila, Pa. – Contract Electrical Design Engineer
Electrical design of light and power for a Bethlehem Steel hot strip mill in Lackawanna, NY. Worked as the team leader for the Power & Free conveyor system for the transportation of coiled steel plates to the Temper, Tandem and Pickling mills for processing. The system included optical sensors, solenoids and control of motors (PLC: Allen-Bradley for analog and digital inputs and outputs).
1972 to 1975 STONE & WEBSTER CO, Boston, Ma & Oswego, NY
Contract Electrical Designer
Electrical design on the James A. Fitzpatrick nuclear station (BWR) 950WM doing switchyard 69kV power distribution, 4160V transformers/ circuit breakers, 480/208V secondary power, lighting and controls in the Boston office. Transferred to the field jobsite in Oswego, NY for the new construction of the plant in generating change orders to the electrical contractor Lord/Comstock and the engineering office in maintaining proper documentation per the NRC regulations. Numerous walkthroughs of the existing Nine Mile Niagara Mohawk BWR facility (clearance escort required – expired) adjacent to the Fitzpatrick site including maintenance and inspection responsibilities during refueling. Worked on the Fitzpatrick site during construction related to the reactor building, turbine building, radwaste and water treatment plant instrumentation and control systems.
