Grand Rapids Junior College 1960 – 1961 Completed 2 year degree
Western Michigan University 1961 – 1964 Completed BS degree
(Industrial Supervision)
Work Experience:
Tool and Die Apprentice 1964 – 1968 Walker Tool and Die Inc.
Learned to run drill press, lathe, grinders and mills
Built line dies without direct supervision in 1 st year.
Started die designing at home for shop in 2 nd year.
Built progressive dies without direct supervision in 3 rd year.
Die Designer 1968 – 1971 Maghielse Tool and Die Inc.
Started designing dies from concept through detailing on board.
Designed mostly line dies and some progressive dies.
Was asked to be machine foreman which I accepted.
Machine Foreman 1971 – 1973 Maghielse Tool and Die Inc.
Coordinated the machine schedule for 2-D and 3-D machining with the die leaders
Schedule the work based on material delivery and die requirement dates.
Die Design Manager 1973 – 1990 Maghielse Tool and Die Inc.
Went back in design and was promoted to design manager
Reviewed die designs with shop engineers and customers and implemented die changes.
Checked die designs for function and stock listing errors
Started the computer aided design program and trained designers on the system.
Started the CNC programming for 2-D and 3-D machining.
Trained programmers and checked their programs accuracy.
Followed out sourced die designs
Project Engineer 1990 – 2003 Riviera Tool Company
Started at Riviera Tool Company as a project engineer.
Customers Ford, GM, and many small stampers
Duties included processing parts, quoting dies, die design follow up with customer.
Processing engineering changes including quoting revisions and customer follow up with for
costs.
Also included progress reports, updates to customers and recovery plans for dies behind
schedule for completion.
Implemented the Riviera quote package (1995) and the revised version
Process and Cost Analysis 2003 – 2009 Riviera Tool Company
Setup a die material cost center with updates to current prices
Included costs for: Pattern cost, Castings with special formulas for blank dies
Nitrogen cost includes fittings, mount plate and labor
Tool steel includes current cost plus markup (type in size)
Plate cost includes current cost plus markup (type in size)
Laser cost uses length of profile, holes and quantity for cost
Purchase items includes die sets, punches and bushings and misc.
Customer contact and developed processing to make the parts
Sales and costing of outside machining (GM, Alcoa and overflow from local die shops)
Worked with customer (stamper) and their customer to revise parts that would be that
would be easier to manufacture in stamping dies. We reverse engineered these parts
back to them to incorporate into their part designs. This turned into a 5 million dollar
project.
Worked on special projects (Aluminum Shower bases – prototyped parts and developed a
manufacturing process)
Developed a quick quote procedure in Excel for costing out die costs based on the length
of line for different functions. This cost was based on a variable dollar value per inch
and a percentage value for material. I build in a factor to change the quoted hours
automatically if material was not correct by typing in the correct material. This
program was based on the individual die shop costs
Other Work Experience:
Pro-Tool Engineering 1964 – 2000 Owner
Made prototype parts for stamping companies
Developed Die Design software for Acad (2-D) called EasyDie 1995
Production problem solving and die maker trainer in assembly plant (Dana)
