For the past nine years I worked as Safety Manager then Safety Director for a California construction company that averaged 250 employees. My duties included Safety, Worker’s Compensation, and Claims. Our TIIR averaged 3.80, which is about 35% below the construction industry average. We had a Mod Rate of around 0.7, which is about 30% below the industry average, and a Lost Time rate that was about 50% below the industry average. Because I was the only person doing Safety, Worker’s Compensation, and Claims, combined with the simultaneous multi-state work sites, I became very proficient at time-management, multi-tasking, and regulatory compliance of numerous locations.
My 25 years of safety experience includes 9 years as Safety Manager / Safety Director, 10 years at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), manufacturing, and hazardous materials.
I am a certified instructor in eight different subjects including OSHA 30 and 10 hour (construction); fall protection, trenching and excavation; confined space; Hazmat; tower safety & rescue; and radiation (RF/EME) safety. Although I may or may not provide training in all of these subjects in the new position, this training experience and knowledge will be of great value in my daily activities towards protecting the employees and the company.
With my extensive knowledge and work experience in Safety, Worker’s Compensation, and Claims I will be a great asset to you if you can utilize what I have to offer.
I am available for immediate employment. I prefer regular employment but I would consider contract work and I am willing to relocate and/or to travel.

My goals and objectives are simple: Long term employment in Safety and/or Risk Management where I can make a positive contribution. With my knowledge, expertise, and dedication I will be a great addition to the company that can utilize my experience.
February 2000 to June 2009, Manuel Bros., Inc., Grass Valley, CA Safety Director
The first year of my employment at the construction company I implemented an aggressive random drug testing policy and program. The second year the accident rate dropped and stayed down. On another occasion I made a suggestion that earned the company an additional $200,000 net profit on a project.
I was Safety Manager from February 2000 through 2004 and Safety Director from January 2005 to June 2009. My duties included the functions of the EH&S Manager; Workers Compensation Manager; and Claims Manager for Manuel Bros., Inc. (MBI). MBI is a General Engineering construction company that performs a variety of civil construction projects, including gas lines and telecommunications. They also have a full service wireless communications division. Among my duties was to prepare the safety policies, implement the safety practices, and provide all of the safety training. MBI has a work force that varies from 150 employees to 300 employees working in several states at the same time. Because of my duties and multi-locations, I have become very proficient at time-management and multitasking. Since I left Manuel Bros., Inc., I have been doing contract safety training and consulting.
Onsite Environmental Services-Alameda, CA Safety Coordinator
Onsite is a placement agency for temporary assignments. I devoted this time to update my practical experience working in construction and with hazardous materials. I fulfilled the duties as the responsible safety person while working on projects which include: Level-3 telecommunications for Peter Kiewit Co.; at the U. S. Department of Energy nuclear facility at Rocky Flats in Denver, Colorado; the remediation of a petroleum pipeline system for the Port Authority of San Francisco; and on a soils contamination arrest project at Travis Air Force Base, in California. Additionally I worked at a Level 1 toxic waste disposal facility, with air monitoring and most the work being done in Level A personal protective equipment.
McGehee Equipment Co., Ukiah, CA Safety Manager
This was a contract position in which I was successful in completely redeveloping the Safety program and the Hazardous Materials program for a manufacturing company with 75 employees who make computer controlled heavy equipment. McGehee had a mod rate of 1.65, and they were mandated by CAL/OSHA to restructure their safety program and by the EPA to restructure their Hazmat program. I addressed auditory, illumination, mechanical, electrical, health, and general safety issues. One major accomplishment was being able to reduce the hazardous materials waste stream by 65%, which brought it under the recommended EPA standard. Satisfactory final inspections by four different branches of CAL/OSHA, the Building Code inspector the State of California EPA and the Fire Marshall brought my contract to an end.
AmCan Enterprises (Sole proprietorship safety consulting), Napa, CA
I owned and operated a safety-consulting firm, assisting client companies with their self-improvement efforts by updating existing or establishing new safety programs and/or hazardous materials programs.
