Electrician’s Mate. Coordinated critical repairs to vital electrical equipment. Troubleshot and repaired 60 Hz, 440-volt motors and motor controllers for equipment up to 300 KW. Troubleshot, repaired, re-wired, and re-installed ship-size air conditioning units. Rapid response electrician on fire fighting team, performing emergency repairs to vital/hazardous equipment. Troubleshot electrical problems in diesel engines. Hardwired generators, transformers, circuit breakers, and fuses. Analyzed lighting systems, determined cable and power requirements, and placement of lights and receptacles, from standard office lights to battle lanterns. Performed electrical tool and safety inspections. Repaired and replaced casualty power cables and welding equipment. Trained junior personnel on detailed electrical work processes, and evaluated work of 3 – 6 junior sailors. Led sailors in rewiring AC and DC high and low power motors. Replaced capacitors, solenoids, slip rings, and brushes for generators. Conducted repairs on heavy duty washing machines, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, fire fighting equipment, and communication systems. Checked freeze and chill boxes for submarine safety. Tested and repaired portable electrical equipment. Ensured that equipment on life saving emergency boats was always operational. Tested reduction gears with tachometer, and repaired or arranged for specialized outside contractor.
