I want to work for a company where I can continue to use the Management, Coordination, Scheduling, Safety and People Skills I have learned over the years. To add value and enhances the companies success & reputation by helping to deliver safely built, quality projects on time, within budgets, which produce long lasting relationships from satisfied clients.
I’m known for creating and maintaining safe & profitable projects. No project is too challenging or unique, to big or small.
I managing by example through leadership vested with honesty, integrity and caring. “Remembering you can’t push a chain, but if you lead and pull the chain you receive the benefits and strengths of each of the individual links working togetherâ€
I team build & motivate sub-contractors & employees through strong leadership & positive reinforcement. I look for opportunities to use positive reinforcement, it takes a small time investment but pays large dividends. I’ve learnt the value of my presence out on the site, the value of just watching & listening, a smile, a solid hand shake and a thank you, a pat on the back, a knuckle bump, a few kind words for a job well done go a long way towards my efforts to motivate, and encourage. Never forgetting it takes us all and “Success is the sum of many small efforts.“
Make no mistake about it, I look for and will remove bad apples from the barrel before I’ll let them spoil the whole barrel.
By taking the time to listen in earnest and then respond to their problems, bitches, comments and advice. There’s a lot of helpful knowledge out there from senior journeymen tradesmen & senior field leadership when it comes to means & methods that can save both time and money if one will just take the time to listen and evaluate what they are saying.
By being very clear on my expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and related goals.
My goal for every project is the same build it safely, on time, on or under budget, with no surprises and satisfied clients.
Professional references complete with address and contact numbers are embedded in my resume below. As for salary I'm looking to maintain a base compensation package around $90,000.00. However I’m willing to negotiate some.
I have over 15 years experience in the Commercial & Industrial construction industry working as an on site project superintendent. Where I scheduled, coordinated and managed all the sub-contractors, Trade Superintendents, Foreman & Supervisors, for all 16 CSI divisions of the work on site.
I have spent the past 15 years working for the same national commercial / industrial real estate developer & contractor as a superintendent. Where I successfully completed many Commercial, Industrial, Heavy Civil and Infrastructure projects.
Computer Skills I am proficient working in Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Microsoft Project and some Primavera products.
When possible, I schedule my day so that 70% of my day is spent out walking the project site watching, planning and coordinating activities. And evaluating each of the contractors activities, safety practices, production progress, and coordination efforts and many other activities. And the other 30% of the day in the office or my company truck doing the necessary paper work on my lap top.
I feel I have a superior hand on the project when I’m “out on the dirt“ as I like to say. This "out on the dirt" activity allows me to maintain a more interactive, pro-active and helping roll rather than a re-active roll. Spending this time "out on the dirt " allows me more time to identify items that need action, helps me to understand and explain why the action is warranted and allows me more time to create and implement a corrective action plan sooner. Which has the potential to save both time and money.
I've worked my up through the skilled trades starting as a Labor, Carpenter, Carpenter foreman, Asst. Superintendent, Superintendent then a General Superintendent.
I know what it takes to effectively schedule, coordinate & manage, man power, material & equipment on construction sites. Having managed and completed many successful infrastructure, site development and commercial building project from the ground up.
I have extensive experience coordinating & managing superintendents and foremen & supervisors.
I’m a proven leader with good people skills. I interface well with contractors, owners and public officials.
I’m a professional who is reliable, honest, motivated to get things done and ready to go to work.
Please, don’t let the fact that I’m In West Central Indiana be a deterrent for giving me serious consideration for the position. If selected, I will come. I want to be working. Let’s work together and build something. What do you say?
Should review of my qualifications result in a decision to pursue my candidacy. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions. I’ll be happy to answer any question you may have.

Brief Summary of Qualifications Commercial Construction Superintendent
I have worked the past 15 years as a General Superintendent for Duke Construction out of the Indianapolis Office. Indianapolis Indiana. I started with Duke Construction in April 1994 and was employed there until May 2009. Duke Construction downsized its construction division because of the bad economy which has produced very few new construction, land development, building renovation or expansion opportunities. Employees with more seniority than me were retained and I was excused. That made me very sad because there are lots of great people there.
Brief Summary of some of the Skills, Means or Methods used to Create Value and Enhance the Company Success & Reputation.
Over the past 15 years working at Duke Construction with many different, Construction Managers, Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers and Facility Managers.
I’ve helped to create value and enhances the companies success & reputation by the successful completion of many new and different construction projects. Those projects were completed on time, within budgets with satisfied owners, developers, or tenants.
Working effectively and cooperatively with all departments and design professionals i.e. Architects, Engineers, Consultants, Owners, Local Government Official, Building inspectors, Owner Representatives, Pre-construction, Safety, Sales, Estimating, Property management, Accounts payable, Maintenance etc.
Creating & maintaining safe, clean, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing company safety standards, procedures & complying with State & Federal guidelines & regulations. And by completing daily safety Inspections, “where hazards were identified earlier, corrective action taken quicker, less accidents, lower insurance rates = success, value and very positive reputation for clean, organized & safe projects.â€
By ensuring the project is being constructed to the quality standards established in contract scopes, specifications, product data or installation instructions… Verifying the installations meet all the applicable state and local codes and testing requirements.
By conducting pre-bid & scope review meetings then pre-start-up scope review meetings with the project managers & senior field leadership once again reviewing the products, means, methods & equipment the contractors plans to employ to perform the work. Then performing a currant or projected capabilities review to verify the contractors’ ability properly staff the project and achieve the progress as outlined in the schedule. Then planning, scheduling/phasing, organizing, communicating, coordinating the on site activities with the information gleaned from those meetings These meeting are held with our In-house employees, Trade partners, Installation Sub-contractors, Testing & Quality Control Contractors & Suppliers…
Using my computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite of Products, Microsoft Project & Primavera products to communicate, record and track project information.
Microsoft Word was used to create documents & documents templates of all types.
Microsoft Outlook was used to create a contractor contacts data base and to communicate with design professionals, contractors and suppliers via e-mails.
Microsoft Excel was used to create spreadsheets of all types.
Microsoft Project was used to generate the master project schedule where the work was sequenced and milestones were identified and progress could be tracked. Microsoft Project was also used to create short term three week look ahead schedules. These short term schedules were used to help me identify activities that should be occurring or upcoming in the near term. By maintaining these near term scheduled I was able to better monitor short term progress. Alerting contractors of upcoming activities allowing them more time to better coordinate their activities with other contractors and communicate their manpower, material, & equipment needs with their home office and venders.
Posturing a contractor to be pro-active rather than re-active has many beneficial benefits.
Primavera was used to generate the daily reports where many items were tracked and recorded. Such things as safety violations, un-safe acts or near miss incidents, quality control observation, directives to contractors, daily weather conditions, daily site condition, rain fall amounts, weather delays, contractor manpower & activities, coordination, progress & scheduling meeting minutes, erosion control inspections, equipment or material delivery / delays, site visitors, problems and resolutions, all inspections were recorded. Documentation and record keeping is paramount to the success of any project.
By performing timely quality control & attention to detail inspections. These inspections whether performed by me or a third party contractor. Were critical in ensuring the material or products being installed were those that were specified or submitted and approved, These inspection verified the work that is being installed is being installed correctly and as detailed the first time. Catching an error or omission after the fact is embarrassing and can be and usually is very costly and time consuming to rectify. These inspections tend to keep the contractors field leadership alert to the fact that they are being watched & checked which yields many positives when it come to quality and attention to detail…
By participating in educational & training opportunities. Where I learned of new materials, new equipment, new construction methods, application methods, installation techniques… That were then employed on the project to improve worker safety, improve product quality, enhance production, reduce production time, manpower, or materials which helped to reduce costs, improve quality & create value.

Computer skills:
Microsoft Office Suite was utilized to communicate with design professionals, contractors and suppliers via e-mail. And to generate and track R.F.I.’s & F.Y.I’s to design professionals and contractors. Microsoft Project was used to generate Project scheduled and 3 week look ahead schedules. These schedules were used as an aid to plan for manpower, material, & equipment needs and to track task progress in coordination meetings. Primavera was used to generate the daily reports where the weather, contractor manpower, contractor daily activities, erosion control inspection, safety issues, site visitors, problems and resolutions were recorded.
Site, Organization, Management & Utilization:
Set-up the job site field office, coordinated the utility connections to the field office.
Coordinate the Erosion Control Installation & maintenance.
Install the project signage as needed to protect the public & the company.
Established on site security measures, if required.
Established project work hours for all contractors,
Established site access & egress routes for contractors employees & material deliveries.
Established erosion control and maintenance.
Established Contractor parking areas, Material staging and storage areas.
Equipment maintenance & fueling areas.
Establish concrete wash out areas.
Monitor compliance with the S.W.P.P.
Maintain an up to date drawing log.
Maintain a positive and professional company image in the community in which we worked. By protecting the public, honoring noise & dust ordinances, keeping the streets clean, the site organized and free of trash and debris and by being a “good neighborâ€.
Maintained a positive image with the utility service providers by locating and protecting their service lines and easements and contacting them and letting them know when we were planed to work on or near there rite-of-ways, easements or service equipment.
Developed and maintained a positive and pro-active relationship with local building & utility inspectors by getting them involved in the project as soon as possible.
Contractor Coordination:
Conduct a on site pre-start up coordination meeting with each of sub-contractors, second tear sub- contractors and their installation vendors. The sub-contractors’ Project Manage, Project Superintendent, Project Foreman, Competent Person along with a Representative from the Safety Department was requested to attend the meeting to review the following.
Line Item scope review of the work to be performed by the contractor.
Specification section review to identify specifics..
Verify the sub-contractor has obtained all the proper permits, licenses and testing requirements required by state and local authorities.
Review schedule, milestones dates, major material delivery dates and the sub-contractors bullet point out line of the plan to that will be employed to meet and maintain the dates as outlined in the schedule.
Check to see that the latest set drawings are being used by the sub-contractor and the drawings are being distributed to the field.
Review material submittal requirements and progress.
Review shop drawing requirements and progress.
Review material delivery dates for compliance with scheduled milestone dates.
Review site specific items such as job site work hours, job site access & egress, Material & equipment delivery & pick-up hours, staging, storage, equipment build up and fueling areas.
Then establish a solid on site start date verifying men, material and equipment will be available and ready to go on the established start date.
Scheduling:
Worked with Project manager to build a construction schedule with lead & lag times and milestone activities.
Post a large copy of the construction schedule on site in the construction office in a visible location with a date line suspended to mark the currant week or day. And encourage field foreman and Project Managers to utilize the schedule to track their progress and to share this information with there office.
A key to good scheduling is to alert the contractor giving them time to organize and mobilize.
Request a performance schedule for major task from the contractor. It should identify crew sizes, material delivery milestones and any lag or lead times required by there activities. This schedule should be reviewed at the pre-start up meeting.
Conduct progress meetings in which the field foremen & project managers are required to attend. This Is to vital and insures the sub-contractors field and office managers are in concert when it comes to progress and project needs. It also encourages site visits from project manager and others interested in the success of the project.
Preparation and deployment of short term or 3 week look ahead schedules are essential for overall schedule compliance. Require Short term or 3 week look ahead scheduled to be generated by the field foreman or project managers and reviewed in progress meeting. They are a great way to insure the sub-contractors are in contact with their vendors for material need and planning ahead for their man power, and equipment needs.
Safety:
Create & maintain safe, clean, and healthy work environments by following and enforcing company safety standards and procedures & complying with State & Federal guidelines & regulations.
Create and post emergency contact numbers list for Fire & Rescue Station and handy grab & run maps or routes to local Hospitals, First Aid Clinics or Immediate Care Facilities.
Create and distribute emergency contact numbers lists for all the utilities both public and private. I.e. Electric, Gas, Telephone, Water, Sanitary & Storm Sewer…

Ask questions to find out if the contractors employees have been properly trained as it pertains to their job duties, Fall Protection, Ladders & Scaffolding, Trenching & Excavation, Hoisting & Rigging, Confined Space Entry training, Lock-out-Tag-out training, Wielding certificates, …
Ask questions to find out if the contractors employees have been properly trained as it pertains for the various types of tools & equipment being utilized on site. I.e., Aerial Boom & Scissors Lift training, Power actuated tools…
Explain “Tool Box Talk†are required to be done weekly by the contractor, Talks are to be documented and turned in to me for filing.
Review the required general use of PPE or Personal Protection Equipment that must be worn by all contractors employees, visitors & vendors while on site. i.e. Hard Hats, Safety Glasses, Work Boots…. .
Explain how the Company Safety Program is an active and aggressive program. And how all observed safety violations, unsafe acts, near miss incidents and repeated violations will be recorded and tracked through daily documentation. Its important senior field leadership understands this tracking information will be shared with their home office and a action plan for correction or abatement will be required. By tracking those items listed above it helps me to identify contractors, individuals or actions that are generating the greatest potential for loss. And helps me identify areas where additional training may be required to help insure the safety for all.
Ordered drug and alcohol testing as needed if drug or Alcohol use was suspected.
