Senior Estimator
The presentation phase of the estimating process required the use of power point, photoshop, illustrator, drafting in AutoCAD as well as hand sketches to present concepts of the overall plan. In addition 3D models made and rendered in AutoCAD were required to represent clearly some of the more complex structures. The skills I posses in art and illustration allowed me to make these presentations in a fluid and understandable way to senior management.
In the construction phase I was responsible for consulting with the project manager regarding scope, price, materials acquisition, and operations. Also required to negotiate with General Contractors for change orders, procedures, labor requirements and cost estimates.

Industrial Designer
As an Industrial Designer I used my skills in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and other appropriate software to produce piping designs for mining operations.
The process began by reviewing all existing mechanical and civil drawings of the project to determine the best approach for the project. A field visit to the proposed site was then made, real-world measurements were made and recorded, and a formal report dictated for presentation to the design team.
Another aspect of the position was to take hand sketches of new complex mechanical devices and translate them into working drawings for production. This required my knowledge of machine tool practices, welding types and tolerances, and CNC operations.
2D Illustrations for print, computer, video works in client advertising for the construction industry. Development of web content using Dreamweaver, HTML and CSS. Developing interactive CDs for promotion of client projects using Flash with Action Script.
The process of illustrating for Developer clients required a concept presentation that included hand sketches of proposed complex 3D concepts, story boards if there were to be any promotional videos, and in a few cases, hand crafted 3D models of the proposed project using plaster and foam-board.
Computer generated CAD and 3D Renderings for promotional materials for large scale industrial developers. This phase of the artistic presentation required the translation of architectural and civil engineering dimensioned plans into a full scale 3D model using computer programs like 3D Max and AutoCAD.
Print work for brochures required layouts made from notes in client meetings, gathered snap-shots of client facilities and client tastes in print media. The skills required include the use of good communication techniques, expert use of Adobe InDesign, Adobe PhotoShop, and Adobe Illustrator. Further understanding of print media in the form of paper selection, paper weights, paper coatings and the colors that work for each of the combinations listed here. At times the images or graphic arts required color separation at the studio to reduce the cost of having the print company do this process.
Final presentation of the "first article" for client approval included a formal presentation. This presentation would range in complexity from a full edited video to a simple layout of print media selections. In all of the presentations however, there was a level of professionalism that was maintained even in the face of the occasional changes in client demands and redirection of the project itself.
As director of the studio, I evaluated the work of artists and technicians, making suggestions for improvements, teaching the junior artists new techniques and tricks to accomplish a goal more efficiently. I also kept a database of work performed, time on job, and client satisfaction for each project and artist. Also specifications were given to the printing company for packaging and long term storage preparations based on client needs and the size of the order.

Cedar City Utah US
Salary: 12 USD Per Hour
Hours per week: 40
Fixture Designer
Fixture design involved the use of hand sketched drawings approved by client and supervisors, working drawings for production, and final renderings for client approval.
Knowledge of wood working equipment and capabilities, tolerances of production equipment, and production practices and scheduling. A large part of the design process included making and keeping good relations with the production staff. These relationships allowed the information of real production practices and abilities to be considered when designing fixtures.
For each of the designs and for each client, data entry was done to record all of the details regarding the project. A database was also maintained to track materials, labor, and scheduling costs on all projects. During the design process, access to the database was essential in determining current costs, stock on hand, lead times for specialized materials or vendor generated components and scheduling.

Architectural Drafter
Developing Architectural plans from hand sketches by Architects and clients. Working with revised hand sketches of my own while conversing with clients and Architects to finalize a design. These projects were typically multi-level log and stone structures for high profile clients such as Oprah Winfrey, and Tom Cruise. The structures had complex features such as cantilevered decking requiring structural drafting practices and sectional views.
Another aspect of the Architectural work was in restoring historical sites to the original design. This involved significant field work in making measurements of current conditions, evaluating structural integrity, and making isometric hand drawings on site of significant areas of the structure.
Electronic drafting of video security systems for public buses. This included the drawings and layout of the wiring harnesses to be placed within the structure of the buses. Placement of the video cameras based on design parameters of the cameras themselves was also part of the design process.

My duties included design, drafting CAD working drawings, and project supervision of natural gas dehydrators. I interfaced with the high pressure vessel design engineers in gathering specifications to route piping, determine size and wall thickness of piping, and valve and pump types to be used in the complex dehydration system. Drawings consisted of mechanical sectional views for the more intricate portions of the units, isometric and perspective views, and all dimensioned to meet specific tolerances. In the drawings for the more complex units, multi-view projections were necessary for clarity.
All of these components had to be placed on a unit that would fit on a flat bed truck to be transported and installed in the field. Packaging these units involved complying with ASTM specifications in both transport and high pressure operations. An understanding and awareness of DOT regulations were also necessary for safe and secure shipment. My skills in welding specifications, pipe fitting, and mechanical design were also necessary in producing these units.

Owner Graphic Designer
This is my own company.
In 1986 I worked as a temp at the Hurricane Masa Test Site leased from the Air Force to Stencil Aircraft of Arizona. I was an electronics technician setting up high speed video and telemetry for the testing of ejection systems in jets. Here I learned a great deal about DoD operations, packaging, and test parameters per MIL Spec.
Here I have accomplished the bulk of my experience in art, graphics, 3D modeling, rendering both freehand and computer generated.
In 1995 to 1998 I was commissioned to work on a CD of Interactive Instruction called “The Magic of Makeup†a tutorial for women’s makeup. I served as the primary artist/consultant, creating makeup tools & beauty products in 3D to be animated in a user interface during the lessons. My client was Two Shoes Productions based in San Francisco who had as principals, the Fashion Editor for the San Francisco Chronicle, and the CFO of 3COM whom I met with on a regular basis during production. The product required my talents in 3D graphics as well as 2D animation in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe AfterEffects and PhotoShop.
My role in the production had many facets including creative director where I supervised several freelance artists in developing the content for the lessons on the CD.
Also I functioned as the audio editing specialist taking the voice talent of the artists and integrating the audio and animations for the project. This phase of the project required my management skills in auditioning voice talent and presenting my recommendations to senior management.
This product was to be sold in upscale stores like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and many other fine stores.
Other projects involved clients such as:
Shell Oil - Designing the new fuel nozzle
Texas Instruments - 3D Laser concept drawings
Hitachi - Creating the display for the History of Hitachi in Northern Europe
TAP Pharmaceuticals - Design of the "stomach" animations for their product Zantac.
Also the development of the Marvel Comics animated logo that runs after each of the Spiderman Cartoons. This development involved the use of hand sketches, 2D computer graphics, texture development in PhotoShop and 3D modeling and animation. The final process of putting the elements together into an animation using Adobe Premier ready for distribution.
In 1999 I worked as a CAD consultant for Williams Field Services. In this position I hand sketched on site in isometric the highly complex piping systems of natural gas compression units.

Senior Instructor 3D Graphics
I carried 3 titles at Strata:
Senior Instructor 3D Graphics
Beta Test Coordinator
Customer Service Engineer
As the Senior Instructor I created lesson plans, scheduled classes, and conducted seminars in 3D Graphics and animation. Class size was 30 to 35 client students each having their own computer upon which to work. Subject matter included, 3D modeling, texturing objects, lighting, and animation concepts. Many of the students brought real-world projects that required my expert help in developing the solutions. Projects such as the sign for "Wayne Manor" in the 1992 Batman Returns movie were worked on during class with my direction and help.
As Beta Test Coordinator I supervised the distribution of beta copies of the newest versions of the software. I interfaced with the testers to collect bug reports, solve interface problems and develop "workarounds" while software difficulties were being solved. I interfaced closely with software engineers and software designers to provide up-to-date input from the beta testers. I held a place on the design team to develop new products and promote new products at nationwide trade shows and seminars.
As Customer Service Engineer I supported the customers by solving real time problems with the software. The majority of the support role was spent on instructing the clients in 3D techniques necessary to solve specific modeling needs. This included the development of a working relationship with Rand and Robin Miller of Cyan the producers of the computer game MYST. Many of the elements within the game were my original design and methodology for construction of complex technical shapes.
