1994-1997 BS in Mechanical Engineering, Old Dominion University
EMPLOYMENT
ICF International 03/2009 - Present
Energy Engineer and Analysis for utility energy efficiency incentive programs for both Baltimore Gas and Electric and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. I worked with large commercial and industrial customers to do engineering and economic analysis of HVAC and lighting retrofits and new construction. I assisted in the design and capital procurement planning including ROI determination and funding assistance through utility incentives as well as federal and state grants. Projects included;
Chiller plant modernization for commercial buildings at 100 Light Street in Baltimore, Upper Chesapeake Memorial Hospital, Harford Memorial Hospital, and Bon Sequer Hospital.
Lighting retrofits at campuses include Towson State University, the US Naval Academy, Calvert County High School and Calvert County's new Aquatic Center.
Johnson Controls Inc. 10/2007 - 02/2009
Building Automation and HVAC Account Executive (UVA) – As the building automation and account executive for the University of Virginia, I was responsible for sales, installation and project management to the university. Johnson Controls is the primary building automation and controls company for the university and recently purchased York HVAC equipment. As the account executive I was responsible for bidding new work for both controls and equipment, monitoring existing systems and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of on-going work in accordance with engineering and best practice specifications. I completed both Johnson Controls and York HVAC equipment training at the factories as well as pass the LEED AP exam while at Johnson Controls.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Monthly project status reports
Project estimating/sales and marketing
Assist project manager with installation and maintenance of all HVAC and controls equipment
Produced technical proposal and engineering submittals
Submitting purchase orders
Budgeting and monthly reporting requirements
GridPoint Inc. 2005 - 06/2007
Product Development Manager – GridPoint manufacturers’ small business and residential Supply Side Management appliances for utilities such as Cogentrix as part of an electrical peak shaving strategy for utilities to tap discrete points of saved energy during times of excessive demand. As an energy engineer I designed and implemented the system data flow from the GridPoint appliance back to the GridPoint Operations center over the internet.
Energy analysis was done to support sales and marketing determining energy costs savings and Return On Investment (ROI). A centrally located architecture was developed so that all parties in the process of deploying and maintaining an appliance would receive timely up-to-date information regarding an appliance and/or customer. The software was designed to maximize benefits from flexible pricing initiatives by utilities. The product greatly enhances the profit capture ability of the consumer, taking advantage of hourly electricity rate changes.
Responsibilities:
Cost benefit analysis
Sales and marketing
Building Energy Usage Analysis
Produced technical proposal and process documents
Budgeting and monthly reporting requirements
ANTARES Group 1997 - 2005
Mechanical Engineer - Design, Installation, and Monitoring of a Rooftop Solar Power System, Prince George's County and the Maryland Energy Administration
Through a state grant initiated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), ANTARES installed a 12 kW solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the Inglewood III office building in Largo, MD.
The building is the county’s main headquarters for the Department of Environmental Resources, Public Works & Transportation, and Housing & Community Development.
The objective of the project was to capitalize on valuable state and Federal cost-share funding to install a minimum-cost solar power system for demonstrating the benefits and performance of solar power technologies. The project was funded by Prince George’s County, the Maryland Energy Administration, the Virginia Alliance for Solar Electricity, and the U.S. Department of Energy through an award from the Utility Photovoltaic Group’s TEAM-UP program.
The system includes a remotely accessible weather station and power meter to monitor system performance. The weather station monitors wind speed, solar energy, and ambient temperature. Additional metrics were calculated such as CO2 emissions curtailed and electricity cost savings.
Responsibilities:
Wrote technical proposal for grant money from DOE for installation and monitoring (conducted analysis to break down amount of grid energy displaced and CO2 emissions curtailed) of 12 kW solar photovoltaic system.
Engineering analysis to determine size and placement of solar panel.
Construction drawings for panel installation.
Installation and setup of remote gateway to solar panel and batteries to monitor kW production.
Development of algorithms for calculating cost savings and emissions reduction.
Oral presentations and marketing of project.
Project Manager Industrial Energy Audits
As a contractor to Baltimore Gas and Electric conducted energy assessments in proposed shared energy agreements with University of Maryland, G. Heileman Brewery, Perdue Farms Inc., Venture Plastics and Blow Molders, Inc
Participated in Maryland's Center for Industrial Energy Efficiency audit program as a “Best Manufacturing Practices†auditor. Conducting energy audits for companies; Westvaco (pulp and paper), Washington Aluminum Co. (aluminum fabricators), Malco Plastics Division of Thorn EMI (mfg. Credit cards)

Wrote proposal for Maryland Energy Administration for co-firing coal with chicken waste as a means of fuel cost reduction as well as sulfur reductions in emissions and nitrogen groundwater run off. The proposal won $50,000.00 grant form the U.S. Department of Energy.
Utility Power Modeling and Design
Project manager for technical/economic feasibility studies sponsored by the Northeast Regional Biomass Energy Program, a division of the Department of Energy.
Responsibilities:
Supplied power plant performance models for varying technologies to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
These performance models were used in studies for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and for the Empire State Biopower Consortium for alternative use of biomass as a fuel for cofiring in existing power plants and in advanced turbines and combined cycles for the future.
Produced preliminary designs for retrofitting utility coal plants to cofire
Conducted site evaluations and retrofit requirements.
Conducted technical/economic feasibility studies
Produced preliminary retrofit designs
Assisted utilities in an effort to increase the use of biomass as a fuel
HVAC Industry Consultant
Technical consultant for a major industrial/commercial HVAC controls manufacturer. Evaluated various industrial and /commercial HVAC system sizes and configurations, developing designs for centralized control for industries such as: food processing, bottling and canning, chemical, paper and various process manufacturers.
Responsibilities:
