I have experience in all types of construction and uses. I would like to be project manager that creates sites and buildings, gets permits and follows the construction process to insure that it matches the design and intent. While making sure that the client is in the loop on everything and is happy with the final product just makes my day.
JACK M. SWANSON
I moved to the Phoenix metro area in 1993 from Brighton, Michigan where I spent most of my adult life. In Michigan I worked for several Architectural firms as a draftsman and project coordinator. I have over 40 years of experience in architectural firms from drafting to Ownership. In 1993 I was hired by Kurt Reed (KDRA) as a project manager where I redlined and a dedicated cad staff created cad files. My responsibilities and duties increased to where I was appointed Vice President of Operations and offered stock shares. In December of 2006 there was an offer to sell the firm and after several attempts it failed. I then made a conscience decision to leave KDRA on September 30th of 2007and I haven’t regretted that choice.
While at KDRA, I was involved with the reorganization of the weekly schedules, creating a team concept for the office, created job descriptions, and started an offshore cad firm in India. I attended several PSMJ boot camps and seminars from project management, to finance and through ownership. I ran a team with five project managers, two job captains and two cad operators. I managed the construction administration and quality control staff which consisted of three admin staff to coordinate submittals and pay applications, three field staff, two quality control plans reviewers and four cad staff in India. I managed, started and edited the specification rewrite and update to Master Spec. I lead weekly staff and management meetings. With all of my management responsibilities I still created about 10 projects a year from the planning process through construction drawings, permitting and construction.
The type of work that is done at KDRA was commercial retail. I was mostly involved with Lowe’s Home Improvement out of the Carlsbad, California office. I did all of the Lowe’s real estate entitlements through municipal planning and zoning and most of the construction drawings through permit and construction. KDRA completed over 60 Lowe’s buildings and I created the construction drawings for at lease 75% of them personally. Along with the Lowe’s I have been involved with several developers in the Phoenix area. Those projects included planning processes, construction drawings and construction administration. The most current was with Cypress Equities for the NEC of Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant, in Peoria.
My background before coming to Phoenix was in creating construction drawings for custom housing, apartments, townhouses, community centers, industrial and warehousing. In two firms I was involved with senior housing with full care on one floor and independent care on another. I also worked on multi story new and remodel assisted and senior housing in the Detroit area with Forest City. I have worked on just about everything over my career and all of it was fun and exciting.
Thanks for listening.
