EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
• Islands Mechanical Contractor Estimator/Project Manager 2005 – 2009
Industrial/Government projects in heavy construction in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Estimated, secured bids, purchased and barge shipped material for a $ 9.5 million dollar Waste Water Treatment Plant in GTMO Cuba. The scope included nine underground concrete treatment plants; twenty-seven lift stations and 35,000 feet of C900 buried drain and FM PVC. Expected profit margins were exceeded by careful execution of the buy-out, careful planning and value engineering in the field. Other projects have included the base wide replacement of 55,000 feet of domestic water mains. Recently estimated and submitted a $20M dollar bid to revamp a fuel storage terminal. Scope includes tank demo, new foundations and tanks, new CS pipe throughout, concrete supports and painting.
• Colomer – USA Maintenance Engineer/Supervisor 1997 – 2005
Maintenance Engineer/Supervisor in a fast track hair and skin care factory. Responsible for engineering required for process improvement via modifications and upgrades. Worked closely with outside vendors, service organizations and engineering houses. Was the supervisor over a 14-man maintenance crew and interfaced with production supervisors and off shift supervisors. Conducted weekly safety training for the maintenance staff.
• Industrial Service of Mobile Project Manager 1994 – 1996
Estimator/Project Manager in heavy industrial construction. Solicited projects for bid in the citrus and chemical industry, estimated, buy-out, organized the labor, worked closely with the superintendents. Completed an 11,000-foot 316L Stainless Steel pipe installation on a new citrus evaporator and cold storage. Estimated and installed 950 feet of 8†LP steam piping and pipe bridges.
• MJ Wood Company Project Manager 1990 – 1994
Estimator/Project Manager in heavy industrial construction. Solicited projects for bid from a satellite office for two neighboring paper mills. Estimated, submitted proposals, buy-out, worked closely with the superintendents. Projects included piping, civil, and structural. Projected profits were exceeded as a result of good planning and coordination.
• ITT Rayonier (Cellulose Mill) Project Engineer 1988 – 1990
Performed project engineering designs and installation of capital and expense projects required to maintain the operation of the mill. Projects included the extensive revamp and replacement of boiler breaching including expansion joints and gate valves. Designed and installed a new mill air system that eliminated an old existing compressor and the need to rent third party equipment. The project resulted in an annual saving of more than $ 100,000. Changed out and revamped an old pulp washer drum. Resized and installed new process improvement equipment.
• Container Corp (Now JSC) Project Engineer/Manager. 1979 – 1988
Project Manager for a new chemical process valued at $7.6 Million. Managed the placement of piling, concrete, structural steel, tanks, process equipment and piping. Because of good planning, ground breaking to start-up only took seven months. The project over-lapped a $12.6 Million sextuplet evaporator set requiring the demo of an old boiler, two precipitators and a brick lined stack. Both projects required extensive outside engineering coordination as well as heavy purchasing activity involvement. The project required an extensive relay of information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
Mechanical Project Engineer for a $100 Million paper mill re-build involving all portions of two 244" trim paper machines, stock prep and digester area and new control rooms. The project required extensive rework of Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel piping and replacement of major primary equipment. Project start to finish was successfully completed in two years.
Responsibilities included organizing and coordinating engineering and construction interface with the mill; equipment specifications and drawing reviews and approvals; extensive purchasing involvement and coordination; dispatch of information to the mill maintenance and engineering departments.
Paramount was the achievement of a constructive and cooperative working relationship with the contractor and sub-contractors and outside service organizations; i.e., machine shops, service and fabrication suppliers; and maintaining them over time.
