I have spent most of my life working in construction. When I first started working for Cocoa Mason I started in the 1986 and didn’t stop working with them tell 2007 .When I started with Cocoa they still had masons so I started out as a mason tender. As a mason tender I learned how to count courses so that I would know how much block the masons needed. I also learned how to mix mud/cut block and build scaffle. But Cocoa found out that I could do more than just sling block I guess it was because I was not afraid to learn and do other things. Im glad they did because not long after that they stopped doing block work. My next job with Cocoa was downing demo work and Cocoa had a lot of it. When I first started doing demo work Cocoa's Ida. of getting the job down was hurry up and *%#up [measure once and cut twice].Well we finely got smart and started doing the job right the first time.So they put me on a footer crew. When we got to a job the first thing I would do is cut batter boards put stakes in the ground and shoot them up with a laser. After we goy done laying out I would put up string lines and we would start digging my main job was to keep the backhoe on grade. Will I was digging I would make grade nails and shoot them in with a laser .When we were done digging I would cut bed boards help the rod busters put steel in the footer and help them tie it. After that I would cut and set bulkheads I would also cut wood for the step sand set them .Once we were finished with the footer I would brake out the pour tools .I would string out the cord and vibrator/shovels and rake. When we poured I would either have the vibrator in hand or shovel or mag to soothe down the footer. When we had no footers to dig we would help other crews. If the finisher needed a hand we would help them pump or pull mud. Some times the slab guys would need a hand we would help them dig put plastic and steel down and help them and help them tie the steel. We also would help the beam crew we would help them run their wood and help them tie their beam steel and we would help them pump or pour concrete. We also helped them tie their deck steel. I can cut and tie steel. I can cut wood build forms and set them. I’m not picky about what kind of working I’m dewing as long as it’s not agonist the law or will harm me or my coworkers. I’m not afraid to do what I know and learn what I don’t.
