Professional Experience
Executive Director Sea Island Habitat for Humanity 2007-Present. Chief Executive of one of the oldest Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the world. With 22 full time and 10 part time staff, and 100,000 volunteer hours, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity completed 35 affordable homes in fiscal 2008 for sale to low income families. The Executive Director provides direct oversight of division managers for Administration and Advancement, Habitat ReStore Operations, and Homebuilding and is the chief spokesman for the affiliate. Accomplishments include a complete revamping of affiliate accounting procedures, re-staffing of key management positions, creating project management controls and procedures to expedite the construction process, a complete re-design of the home prototypes produced by the affiliate to meet EarthCraft energy standards, new cost control and contract protocols for construction, and initiating short, medium and long term strategic planning and policy with a goal of 50 homes to be built each year by 2013.
The I’On Group, LLC. 1996-1998 and 2004-2007. Originally engaged in 1996 as project manager for the award winning I’On Traditional Neighborhood Development in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Responsible for all requisite activities to take a 243 acre in-fill parcel from raw land to finished building lots for sale to residential homebuilders. Upon returning to the I’On Group in 2004 as Director of Development, responsibilities included the oversight of a team of project managers for multiple traditional neighborhood development projects in North and South Carolina.
Interim Head of School Charleston Day School 2002-2004. At the request of the Board of Trustees, assumed the role of Head of School at a critical time for the school. Made the requisite staff, operational and budgetary changes necessary to guide the school through a difficult period and place it on solid footing in anticipation of finding a suitable permanent Head of School.
Gulf Stream Group, Inc. 1987-1995. Chief Executive of regional design/build development and facility management firm engaged in residential planned communities, retail and commercial real property development, and facility management in the Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia region. Gulf Stream also provided third party architectural and engineering design and construction and facility management services for residential, commercial, industrial, medical, and institutional product.
Trammell Crow Residential Co. 1985-1987. Regional office of national development firm engaged in planned residential communities in New Jersey, Delaware, New York, and Connecticut. As Senior Vice President of Construction, responsibilities included site identification, market analysis and site feasibility studies, oversight of consulting design professionals as they related to the permitting, approval, and design development process, and direct supervision of staff construction professionals as projects moved forward through the construction process. Named Employee of the Year in 1986.
Andrew Beck Incorporated 1976-1985. Engaged in residential and light commercial development, design and construction services in Maryland and Delaware. As president, responsibilities included managing a staff of up to forty employees, procuring third party contracts for design and construction services, and creating, documenting and capitalizing general and limited partnerships for real property development.
