Intern engineering student at University of South Alabama – Three+ Years (C0-OP)
Worked in the following departments as an Engineering Aide (Co-Op Program—University of South Alabama) while at Diamond Shamrock Chemical over four summers:
Engineering Department.
I performed survey work (rod and transit), Flow, Temperature, Pressure calculations on processes. Worked on waste filter projects, water filter (sand filter) projects, SPC charting, Mechanical drawing of hydraulic, pneumatic, instrument, electrical schematics.
Instrument and Electrical Department.
I performed multiple calibrations, and repairs on various types of instrumentation. Learned troubleshooting skills on a broad range of instrumentation and electrical equipment. Electrical equipment includes 12.7 kV to 480 v transformers, OCB’s, Large AC/DC Rectifiers, electric motors and controls, and hoist and hoist electrical and mechanical controls.
Maintenance Department.
I performed troubleshooting and repair on pumps, hoist, welding and burning, compressor repair, valve replacement and repair, bearing maintenance (lubrication) and replacement, and Vibration analysis. In the metal shop, I learned the use of metal lathe, milling machine, drill press, sheet metal brake, and punch press.
Laboratory
I performed various analyses on brine, caustic, chlorine. Performed concentration analysis from samples and used SPC charting plots for quality control.
