Ship Alteration 668K (modifications to ship’s gray water systems) encompasses approximately 1,200 man days of work and installation of three independent pump rooms (forward, midships and aft) for collecting, holding and transfer of the ship’s gray water.
Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices applicable to the design, repair and testing of systems as well as sound familiarity with related disciplines, particularly structural and electrical.
Facilities Engineer
Reviewed initial Facility Certification Report (FCR’s) for the purpose of determining adequacy of the docking facility to conduct safe operations in compliance with MIL-STD-1625 and other Dry Dock Safety Certification Program (DDSCP) requirements.
Conducted 15 on-site biennial audits of both private and Navy operated docking facilities that were previously certified to dry dock US Navy vessels.
Investigated and provided NAVSEA 07 with an evaluation of accidents/incidents which occurred at certified facilities.
Required to use gained program experience, sound judgment and engineering expertise in situations where scheduling, financial and political concerns often required deviation from military and accepted DDSCP standards.
Design Engineer
Provided design services for preparation of drawings and specifications for the installation, modification, repair and testing of marine/mechanical components, equipment and systems for main propulsion on Submarine (AS) and Destroyer (AD) Tender class ships.
Prepared technical specifications and procedures required in the maintenance, repair or modification and testing of shipboard systems, equipment and components.
Provided technical review and acceptability of contractor prepared drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with NAVSEA and local requirements.
Designed replacements for main propulsion diesel engines, including all support piping systems and ventilation for the USS Constant (MSO-427), USS Excel (MSO-439), USS Pledge (MSO-492) and USS Implicit (MSO-455).
Field Engineer
Prepared Design Field Instructions (DFI) in response to production shop requests for resolutions to design and engineering problems associated with the removal, repair, installation and testing of shipboard systems and components.
Provided field engineering support for propulsion shaft alignment calculations, bearing load calculations, rotating machinery resilient mount calculations and reduction gear tooth contact evaluations.
Reviewed waiver/deviation requests submitted by shops to determine technical adequacy of proposed action and recommended, with engineering justification, approval/disapproval of requests after technical evaluations.
Certified NAVSEA propeller inspector and have certified and installed such on surface craft and submarines.
Provided field engineering support for 10 major off-yard evolutions as CNSY On-Site Representative.
