EXPERIENCE
Project Engineer- EnCon United 8/2008 to 12/2009
Responsible for the leadership and management of internal project design teams in the aspects of building analysis, design, modeling, detailing, time management, and construction. Served as a problem solving resource for design engineers and design modelers during all three phases of building projects, reviewed designs, details, and drawings to ensure structural integrity was always maintained. I received the 2009 PCI leadership class award, recognizing future leaders in the precast industry, for leadership skills.
• Managed and delegated project work load and responsibilities to members of the design team, consisting of design engineers and design 3-D modelers. Reviewed all building drawings and details produced by team members for conformance with building codes, contract drawings, structural designs and economical plant practices.
• Performed structural lateral analysis, designed economical and efficient building systems to maintain structural integrity throughout lateral events. Systems included light walls, punched shear walls, building cores used to resist lateral and moment resisting frames.
• Mentored design engineers throughout the design, production and construction phases, reviewed calculations and instructed them on best design practices for optimal structure performance.
• Assisted the sales and marketing department with preliminary building analysis and design. Developed marketing material related to sustainable building practices, illustrated the ways precast concrete could assist in the achievement of LEED credits.
• Managed design teams billable hours with respect to project budget and construction schedule, tracked running project costs against percentage of project complete. Created work flow charts and team member task lists to increase efficiency at which teams of up to 8 members worked together. Developed Gantt charts for the project with critical project tasks broken into milestones and timelines, each team member was assigned to appropriate tasks.
Project Engineer - Rocky Mountain Prestress, LLC 03/2007 to 07/2008
Responsible for managing and delegating project work load to design engineers, supervising and developing their project design skills along with reviewing all design calculations and details. Managed projects through all three phases ensuring necessary project timelines were met and building structural integrity was never compromised. I successfully managed two large scale 10+ million dollar projects from design to construction.
• Prepared the required design calculations and details for prestressed/precast concrete projects with consideration of: structural integrity, safety, efficient and economical production, stripping, transportation, installation, shoring of the products; and budget limitations of each design element.
• During production phase: Reviewed all production drawings for conformance with shop drawings, contract drawings, construction details, company and industry standards, and efficient production practices. Made necessary visits to production beds to evaluate and solve deficiencies, interferences, quality assurance concerns, and structural integrity concerns. Designed repairs for all products that did not comply with company and industry standards, or intended design.
• During the construction phase: Reviewed final shop drawings and details, assisted the General Contractor by answering questions and helped with the resolution of conflicts that occurred during the installation of prestressed/precast products. Made jobsite visits to observe the quality of the constructed building and ensure that connections of precast concrete elements were made accordingly. Served as problem solving resource for field crews to address all non-conformance issues, structural integrity concerns and field embed repairs.
• Assisted in the training and development of design engineers. Familiarized them with company and industry design standards to ensure efficient and successful project design.
• Performed forensic evaluations of compromised or damaged products and structures. Made field assessments of damaged structures to determine any compromises to structural integrity that may have occurred due to damage. Prepared forensic reports detailing necessary shoring to compromised structure to ensure safe working conditions while precast products were repaired.
Design Engineer - Rocky Mountain Prestress, Inc. 09/2005 - 03/2007
Responsibilities included the preparation, coordination and communication of design calculations and details in accordance with code requirements and implementation of the same.
• Prepared the required design calculations and details for gravity and lateral resisting members. Reviewed the piece drawings for all products I designed to ensure conformance with design, details and shop drawings, along with code and industry standards. Designed repairs for products that were not in conformance during the production and construction phases.
