Objective
I am seeking an entry-level to mid-level mechanical engineering design position within the HVAC field.
Summary of Skills
Computer Skills
• Microsoft Windows environment (98/2000/XP/Vista/7), MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word), CAD (AutoCAD, Solidworks 7.0)
Language Skills
• Fluent in English
• Proficient in Mandarin
Communication Skills
• Through experience working on numerous HVAC design projects at Donnelley Simpson Cleary Consulting Engineers, I have become expert in liaising with a network of clients, design team members of various disciplines, and contractors via telephone, e-mail, site visits, and meetings while minding the intricacies involved in such communication.
• Well-developed technical and non-technical written communication skills obtained through extensive university courses, and refined through practical application in professional environments gives me the ability to present complex material in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner, tailored for a range of audiences.
Project Management Skills
• While at Donnelley Simpson Cleary Consulting Engineers, I undertook mechanical systems HVAC projects from the initial design stages and advanced them through to successful document tendering and construction phases, meeting budget expectations and schedules.
Mechanical Systems Design Skills
• My experience with mechanical systems includes but is not limited to: chillers and boilers for central plants, packaged and split units, VRV and VAV systems, air handling units, exhaust and supply systems, and ductwork design.
• I am trained and experienced in environmentally sustainable design and energy efficiency practices in regards to mechanical HVAC services and building architectural features.
• I am experienced in computer modeling of building energy consumption simulations for the purpose of determining and reducing building energy consumption.
Work Experience
Mechanical Engineer Dec 2008 – Jan 2010
Donnelley Simpson Cleary Consulting Engineers (DSC)
• Performed detailed heat load calculations using the Carrier Method and used the results as a foundation for HVAC design and advisement.
• Performed detailed computer-aided energy simulations for “green building” and environmentally sustainable design (ESD) applications, adhering to building code and MEPS compliance as guidelines.
• Applied LEED equivalent rating schemes to HVAC designs using the “Green Star” rating systems. (Qualified LEED Green Associate candidate).
• Attended seminars and gave presentations to fellow engineers on relevant ESD and “green building” schemes in order to keep the firm up to date with the latest industry practices.
• Undertook projects from initial design phases and progressed them through to successful tender and construction phases. This includes attending meetings, selecting equipment, coordinating with interdisciplinary trades (architectural, electrical, hydraulic, structural, and fire), producing drawings, diagrams, and writing specifications.
• Designed and aided in designing HVAC solutions for commercial, residential, and institutional type buildings, including retirement homes, police stations, medical facilities, high-rise office and apartment buildings, malls, hotels, and supermarkets. This includes smoke management and carpark exhaust systems.
• Designed and aided in designing HVAC solutions utilizing air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, packaged units (standard and custom-built), single and multi-split systems, and variable refrigerant flow (VRV/VRF) systems.
• Attended numerous HVAC clinics to advance my skills and knowledge in the industry. These include the Trane Air Conditioning Clinic, CAMEL (Carrier Air Conditioning Method of Estimating Loads) Program Clinic, BEAVER (building energy consumption simulation) Program Clinic, and Fujitsu Air Conditioning Course.
