to find a dependable and loyal company to work for either in the drafting or surveying/civil department
Most of my experience for almost thirty years has been in surveying and cad. The last three years from Sept 2006 to June 2009 was as an engineering design tech for BP Barber. I was originally hired as a survey technician by Henry Dingle at BP Barber, but the position that I was to have did not come available as they expected. So I was moved to the Urban Development Division to work under Ismail Ozbek and Jim Futter.
My experience in the last thirty years covers many areas of surveying both in the field and in the office. I have worked on construction surveys, interstate layouts, subdivision layouts, water and sewer layouts, landfill surveys, quantity takeoffs for coal mines, retracement surveys. All of these were in the field. Two of the surveys that I am particularly proud of is the retracement survey and as a field engineer on Lock and Dam No. 5 on the Red River. The retracement survey was to re-establish the original boundary between Caddo and Bossier Parishes that was surveyed in 1810. This was to determine how much gambling money from the river boat casinos were to go to each parish. During the course of the research and surveying, we located some of the original monuments that were set by the original surveyors from the Gov't survey, and from there we were able to produce a map showing the original boundary with all the laws and principles that we used to establish the boundary line. That map was displayed in the Caddo Parish Courthouse for some months after the completion of the survey.
As to office experience in surveying, I have done both the research and the drawing of maps, plats, permits, plans, etc. I was the sole researcher for the stretch of I-69 that was to traverse southern Arkansas and northwest Louisiana to establish ownerships and right of way corridors. I had to not only gather all of the research for the various property owners, but then had to plot all of the properties into a map and then locate that map onto the aerials that were furnished to us by the highway dept. Not an easy task as the data was so large that we had to upgrade my computer twice to hold all of the data. I have also done subdivision design along with the water and sewer layouts, drainage layout and building footprints.
My engineering experience is limited to the extent it was involved in the design of the either a subdivision or highway project. I have done the necessary dtm modeling from the data the survey crews gave us and run the contours of the existing ground.
This is some of what I have been exposed to for almost thirty years. If you have specific questions please don't hesitate to call and ask.
Again, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
Sincerely yours,
Robert E. Darnell
