My duties developed into managing timber projects including title research, recon’ing, preparing bids, and performing boundary traverse/section breakdown surveys, staking and property line marking. In addition I was available to run a 3 man construction survey crew with a work load ranging from subdivision development, site development, bridges, underground utilities, transmission lines, airport buildings and runways, etc.
Ÿ Veco Engineering - October 1990-December 1993
I began as an instrumentman with Topcon equipment with a work load concentrating on mapping/asbuilting structures, piping and equipment for in house planning and engineering at Shell, Arco, Texaco and BP refineries. I was promoted to Party Chief in August 1992 with main responsibilities in subdivision development, site development, bridges, underground utilities, boundary surveying, slopestaking, highway construction, etc. In the fall of 1993, I logged over 300 hours of GPS surveying with Trimble equipment for the Nooksack River Watershed Project.
Ÿ Pacific Surveying and Engineering - December 1993-December 1994
Performed instrument duties on a crew with a Licensed Surveyor. Our work load consisted of construction, topographic, asbuilting and boundary surveying.
Ÿ Mortenson Construction Management - February 1995-June 1995
Performed layout duties on the new construction of the Elmendorf VA 7 Story high rise Hospital, including footing and column pads with tower bolt sets, slab walls, roads/parking lots, curbs, utilities, grade hopping and slopestaking.
Ÿ Amtec, Inc. - June 1995-September 1995
Laid out, slopestaked and grade checked a rip rap helicopter pad protruding 300’ into the Bering Sea off Little Diomede Island near the Russian border and the Arctic Circle for Kiewet Pacific. I was called in to assist in a stalled construction site due to layout and documentation problems. We were immediately approved to resume and the project was brought up and running until completion.
Ÿ Callen Construction - March 1997-November 1998
I was hired to utilize Callen’s 1 year old AGTEK software and laptop to topo, design/balance sites, stake subdivisions road grades, curbs, sidewalks, underground utilities, etc. I also spent considerable time as a grade checker using pipe lasers and dual axial lasers, as well as dozer, compactor, backhoe and excavator operation.
Work History (cont.)
Ÿ Ostergaard & Robinson Engineering & Surveying - Nov. 1998-May 2001
I performed Party Chief duties with a concentration on residential subdivision development and condominiums, from initial site topography mapping, permitting, through construction and post-construction asbuilting and approval.
Ÿ Semrau Engineering & Surveying - May 2001 to January 2004
I performed project surveyor duties with a concentration on residential subdivision development from initial title research, to site topography mapping, permitting, construction calc’s through construction and post construction
asbuilting and approval. Additional duties include GPS surveying and preparing topography maps and design plans on AutoCad14, 2000 and Carlson SurvCad. Utilized Leica GPS and EDM’s with robotic capabilities. Extensive use of Windows 2000 and XP, with Lotus Word Pro, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ÿ Island Construction Site & Utilities - Sept. 2004 to Dec. 2005 (360-679-0957)
My primary function, at the onset, was to utilize a Topcon robotic EDM with Insite Construction Staking software to layout a 60 acre Sports Complex, including bathrooms, utilities, detention ponds and parking. My responsibilities have evolved into preparing takeoffs for construction job bids, preparing a Reclamation Plan Application for a sand/gravel pit including site plan, reclaimed conditions, x-section and site maps as well as the SEPA checklist, Reclamation Application, and the Narrative. I have prepared a site plan map and construction plan, and permitted a 58 lot Mobile Home Park water line replacement in Lynnwood, and prepared a cost estimate for bid. I not only had the task of laying-out a 80’ truck scale, but I formed, tied rebar, poured footings, slabs and on/off ramp bulkheads, set column bolts, and directed the crane installation of the scale. I managed a construction job installing 2000 lf of common utility trench and conduits, after preparing the takeoff, bid and negotiating the contract with the client.

The time requirement to begin a fledgling company was more than I could juggle with two very involved teenagers.
Ÿ Northwest Datum & Design – Feb. 2006 to April 2007
I prepared proposals for construction and land survey projects, field prep. calc’s and layout, supervised construction staking, performed crew training, data and traverse reduction and prepared or QC-ed topo base maps and ROS’s using LDD3. In addition, I QC-ed and made edits for numerous engineers as I discovered errors on construction plans, for resubmittal and construction staking. Supervisor and Company owner is Doug Schwind [at] 360.755.0434
Ÿ Mowrer & Associates – April 2007 to Present
I have renewed a working relationship with Mike Mowrer, (360) 708-4837 cell, because of lack of work at Northwest Datum and Design and wholesale layoffs. I am presently preparing proposals for construction and land survey projects, field prep. calc’s and layout, supervising construction staking, performing crew training, data and traverse reduction and preparing or QC-ing topo base maps and ROS’s using LDD2004. In addition, I QC and make edits for associate civil engineers as I discover errors on construction plans, for resubmittal and prior to construction staking.
