To Whom It May Concern;
My name is Sharon Fogleman Hinshaw. I’ve been in the construction industry for 18 years. While I was married I was the co-owner of All Seasons Mechanical Inc. and A1 Heating and Air. We were mostly New Construction Multi-family HVAC Contractors. We did some renovation work in the early 90’s were we also did plumbing.
I have experience designing and creating bid programs in Excel. I also created Warranty Contracts, Subcontractor Contracts, Contracts, Employee Contracts, Material list, and Bid / Proposal forms. I have experience in Job Costing on multiple projects. Most of my experience is in Multi-family but I have worked in Commercial HVAC for about a year where I assisted and did commercial bids for the Service Manager, New Commercial Contract Manager and assisted with some of the Residential Manager’s projects.
I am by nature a workaholic. I’ve worked in multiple states. I am familiar with codes in NC, Sc, Va., Tenn., Fl, Miss, Al, Ga., Wy., SD, ND, Idaho, Ca, NM, Utah, Organ, and Washington. I am familiar with permitting and licensing in all those states listed above. Many counties have now gone to allowing permitting online and calling inspections in online but most still insist on city licensing purchased in person but allow for renewals by mail.
I am familiar with duct board, metal duct, and flex duct. I can tell by looking at a grill, collar, or a boot what size it is. I don’t like fire dampers but they are a necessary evil with a multi-floor application. Every city has a different code regarding fire dampers it seems like.
I’m familiar with Trane, Carrier, Janitrol, York, Mitsubishi, Rheem, Apollo, and Lenox just to name a few of the various equipment I’m use to quoting. I’m some what familiar with “The Green House†that is now so popular with City and State Municipal buildings. Last I’ve heard all new construction on city, county and state was under consideration to be mandated “Green House.†I don’t know if that’s past but I do know that Charlotte has already approved it. A few years back I dealt directly with Duke Power and CP&L regarding rebates for clients that put higher SEER units in their homes / buildings. We were required to use R6 flex at the time and use 180 UL duct tape and all metal duct had to be wrapped and sealed.
I know every company has their own way they bid jobs. Some use Bid programs, others use excel, some use Timberline, and some use QuickBooks Pro for Contractors. I’ve used many different techniques. But in the end you have to know what you’re doing. If you don’t know what you need for each Unit then you aren’t going to do a very good job quoting a project and can end up costing you in the end.
I know most of the Estimators you are considering are men and yes I am a female. However I do have a very vast experience in the HVAC field of work. I know every aspect from Accounting to Estimating to Servicing Warranty work. I know how to schedule and meet deadlines. I’m a very driven person and at times pushy when I want to get something done and I don’t like messy or half hazard work. When an inspection is called in I want it to pass the first time. There have been several times when I’ve called and made appointments with inspectors on the first inspection of a job to see what they want, so we can fix, correct or do what ever is necessary to make sure all of the following inspections are done right and up to that inspector’s “criteria.†When starting a new job I’ve always preferred to get in before the electricians and plumbers. That way we don’t have to work around them and we can put our copper line sets where we need to.
When estimating a job I’ve always bid the job per-specs then given alternates. Such as using cheaper equipment, using duct board instead of metal duct, using cheaper T’s, using shorter flex runs by moving the grills and others supplying dryer vents and caps ect. I’ve quoted Units as small as 1 ½ tons to 20 tons. I’ve quoted heat pumps and gas packs but mostly heat pumps. I’ve quoted single family homes and units for places such as but not limited to American Red Cross Building in Charlotte. I’ve quoted service work that was only a few hundred dollars to multi-family projects over a million dollars, although most multi- family projects are not nearly that much.
I’m accustomed to getting vendors to give me price books guarantying price for 18 month to a year on supplies and equipment (with equipment prices longer when we are talking about multiple multi-family jobs with the same equipment requiring prices to be confirmed until project is finished.) I’ve also created supply booklets on disc / paper for vendors with the items that I needed for all of my jobs. I’ve created material list per building separating Rough In Materials and Trim (final) Materials. Then I used those lists to create Purchase Orders. Then I matched the Purchase Orders to the invoices along with subcontractor and employee wages, a percentage of overhead and other miscellaneous expenses to create job costing. I’ve done job costing in excel, in QuickBooks Pro for Contractors, SBT and Timberline software. I’ve also prepared Corporate Taxes, Payroll, and Payroll taxes. I’ve done Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivables. I’ve done Draw request or monthly contractual billing and it seems every contractor wants theirs done a specific way. I’ve created monthly draw request for contractors and subcontractors. I’ve done lien waivers for vendors, and for subcontractors. I’ve done weekly payroll sheets for HUD.
Safety is always an issue for job sites. I’ve been responsible for preparing and holding safety meetings on a weekly basis. I try to stay a brisk of as many of OSHA’s regulations and requirements for our industry as possible.
Now I’ve told you a little about what I’ve done in the past. I’m sure I’ve left out a lot but this should give you a good understanding of what I’m capable of doing. I’m sure I can always learn more and I have no problem with learning how you doing things and doing them the way you prefer them to be done. I don’t have a problem if you need me to take classes for anything that may be necessary to perform my job to it maximum potential.
I’m comfortable with any pre-employment drug testing you may require. I’m a regular blood donor for the Red Cross. I don’t drink nor do I smoke. Please feel free to contact me either by email at sharon_fogleman[at]yahoo.com or by phone at 1(336)498-5848. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to an opportunity with your company.
Sincerely;
Sharon Fogleman Hinshaw
