SKILLS SUMMARY
Senior Manufacturing/Process Engineer with proven experience in manufacturing environments, such as; experience in recommendation, purchase, and troubleshooting process, equipment, and tooling for metal stamping operations, shaft machining and grinding processes, spring winding, and welding/induction hardening for production parts. Initiated cost reduction projects based on a make vs. buy of components resulting in saving production, labor and operational costs. Provided technical direction on tooling, equipment, and process problems. Proficiencies with Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, AutoCad.
EXPERIENCE
RJF INTERNATIONAL, Marietta, Ohio
Engineering, employed to support implementation of new capital equipment projects, process assessments, AutoCad tool drawings and plant floor layouts, troubleshooting and whatever is needed from the engineering department to support production. Involved in plant rearrangements, searching for equipment for new projects and replacements on present processes. Established machine SOP’s, constructed process flow diagrams. Worked close with maintenance and production to achieve goals and maintain production.
THE HOOVER COMPANY, North Canton, Ohio
Division of Maytag Corporation, manufacturer of floor care products.
Planned, directed and coordinated manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling for the manufacture of metal form parts. Assisted subordinates and supervision in identifying and resolving production problems. Interacted with design engineering and research and development on new product requirements. Interacted with many different group functions such as; design engineering, tool room, maintenance, quality control, purchasing, and production to maintain continuity for manufacturing goals. Also worked with the Lean Sigma group to streamline processes and achieve continuous flow via value stream and process mapping. Participated in 5S, FMEA, and KAIZEN events.
Maintained tooling and equipment records for engineering. Recommended and purchased tooling and equipment for new processes to maintain production. Applied knowledge of stamping, spring winding, and shaft processing to assist in production problems and to initiate new parts manufacturing. Interfaced with vendors on tooling, equipment and materials ensuring efficient production methods. Purchased and arranged for installation of new equipment, tooling and parts to support production. Estimated costs to provide for upper management decisions, researched and recommended equipment and tooling advances to management.
Implemented programs to reduce equipment downtime and setup. Developed tooling and processes to make proto-type parts for research and development. Liaison between engineering, production, tool room, inspection and materials department.
Responsibilities included requesting quotes from in-house toolroom and outside vendors, writing purchase orders, following tool build, scheduling tool runoff, troubleshooting from
first parts approval to full production.
• Led implementation of continuous flow equipment configurations that saved approximately $1 million in labor and work in process costs.
• Established first preventative maintenance programs for metal form equipment achieving better utilization of stamping presses, centerless grinders and spring winders, avoiding major breakdowns of machinery during high production schedules.
• Analyzed and implemented reductions to lower labor costs on production equipment enabling significant savings in manpower, delivery and production.
• Purchased press, tooling and associated equipment for new motor lamination production, assisted in installation, start-up, de-bugging, and runoff of overall operation to produce “Windtunnel†type vacuum cleaners at the El Paso, Texas plant.
• Purchased and assisted in installation of additional state-of-the-art computer controlled spring winders to support production needs. Achieved cost savings of approximately $80,000 annually.
• Implemented cost reductions to purchase new computer equipment to achieve producing parts in-house rather than purchasing outside. Saved approximately $200,000 avoiding purchasing of parts from outside vendors.
• Initiated installation of a “slug-retention†process on all carbide lamination dies saving approximately $90,000 over three years, increasing production between sharpening from 500-600 thousand hits to 4-5 million hits on dies.
